    Alright lads,

I just happened across this Gears' site and thought it was pretty good (lots of photos and stuff). I hadn't seen most of them before so I thought I'd post the link.

Most of you probably know of it already though.

I've been watching it a while. It got best 360 game and best action game at E3. Hopefully it'll be out before Christmas.

Monument had a game of it at E3. You can find his report on www.gamestoaster.com.

Nobody knows for definite but it'll most likely be November acording to most sites.

I think it'll be worth it though.

****, I'm really jonesing for another good 360 game – don't want to wait til sept.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,255 ✭✭✭✭Lemlin

Most sites are listing the release date as Fall/Winter. You can be sure of one thing though, it'll be out before mid-November, Microsoft will definitely have this in stores at least a week or two before the PS3 launch.

Brother of mine has played it, just a quick playtest, and he said although it looked amazing and had a few cool features - it's basically just a "you, go over there and shoot that. I'll shoot this thing and then it'll blow up, then we all go to there."

But then again he sucks at games so I wouldn't hold it to him..

Oops, meant Microsoft. In my defence it was late and I guess my head is still stuck in the retro days of Sega vs. Sony.

The retro days were Nintendo vs Sega ;)

Looking forward to Gears of War, seen some veeery nice screenshots recently aswell.

Jesus, people would nitpick anything ya say on here ;) Anything less than five years ago is retro in my mind, I've a tough time remembering what I was doing five minutes ago after all.

Er, didn't he just describe every single FPS ever? ;)

Yeah, that's the point. Aside from looking pretty, it's nothing new.

    What exactly was he expecting?

Eh? I don't know, it's just what I was told.

For starters, it is not a first person shooter.

For seconds, is this perhaps the first game with a chain saw on the bottom of an assault rifle?

It has got to do with a collective of things, from the polish to all the small stuff joining up... for example, the atmosphere way you run, then once you hit a wall you automatically duck and cover (not just this happening, but how it happens). From the small bits I’ve seen and the small bit I’ve played, it’s hard to know exactly how this is going to turn out – but it looks like a hit, maybe even a consoler seller (disclaimer: I’ve probably cursed the game and myself by saying this).

An interview with the lead designer, Cliff Bleszinski, will be online at Irishgamer in the morning. I'll post a link then.

Sorry for pimping the site but I thought it would be of interest to people looking forward to the game.

    Edit: Its online now, http://www.irishgamer.ie/features.php?id=3&page=1

Cheers, took a while to get that interview but it was worth it. We're going to have more like that, next up is the Head of Sony Ireland and then we're going to be talking to the developers of Assassin's Creed.

I fully plan to. One question I'm definitely going to ask is will a PS3 last the pace? I paid good money for my PSone only for it to pack in after two years and to have to turn it upside down to get it to read discs.

Then my PS2, which I bought on launch day, wouldn't read discs at all after two and a half years. Kept getting "disc read errors". Luckily I was working in an electrics shop and could exchange it.

If a PS3 is 600 euro, it better last a good while longer!

not sure what happened to your ps1, mine still works today!

the ps2 had an issue with the tray loader, so to fix it, sony are using a disc loader (i.e. you push the disc in a-la VHS or car cd stereo)... apparently it works a charm, but they haven't been using it for 2 years everyday straight

Grill the bastard over it too.. I worked in Tesco while in college for 5 or so years in one of their biggest toy shops. 2 or 3 Christmas' running, I think I had something like 40 PS1's to send back to Sony because of hardware faults. The first Christmas with the PS2 was nearly as bad considering that fook all sold yet we had at least 10 to send back.
