Considering an Alpha Romeo 166 (2000) - 90K €6,500K - seems like good value although i have tested it yet. Anyone have one.............

beautiful car. apparently all alfas suffer from niggly electrical problems but i don't know. i nearly bought a '99 at a trade centre for €3,900. i'm sure this was exceptionally cheap though. but i think they are fantastic....

Lovely car and great value for money at that age. There are pitfalls though and I would have it checked over by an Alfa specialist before buying

Also, what engine is in the one you were looking at? I'd pass on the twin spark myself

Call Gerry Campbell at TI Autos, and have a chat with him first. I've driven a 2.5 once, lovely car.

What engine is in the one your looking at? Whats the spec- Leather? CD Player? If your patient you can get great specs or bring one in from the UK.

I got one (Manual 3ltr V6 24v) with genuine 50k for the same money a few months back. Loving it BIG time. Gerry in TI Autos did the servicing and timing belt , so reserve a few bob on this. Hungry on fuel, get 30mpg on long runs and 10-20mpg around town.

If you want a beautifully spec'd drivers car for a REAL bargin, this is the one, but DO get it checked out. They have (needlessly) suffered from bad publicity and association with the more problematic 156 (which is still also fab - I had two). Someone else has paid for the huge depreciation - you can enjoy that. Check out Alfaowner.com for great support and advice.

You did well. Great in this country that very few people can afford / want to drive a 3l car so second hand prices are exceptionally low. The good 'awl Alfa V6 is a great engine and very strong

My best mate just changed his 156 2.4JTD for a GTV with the same 3.0 V6 24v engine as in your car and he loves it :)

I drove a 3.0 166 on the track at Mondello. It was an automatic and was utter pants on a circuit.

Big car and massive leather seats. You slipped around whilst cornering.

Nice engine note however. Built more for comfort than speed and handling.

Yes the automatics are pants. Only 4 speed and no where near as good as the 6 speed manual.
