Bike Shops are a disgrace in dublin

Its f*ckin ridiculous. I rang around today looking for a Varadero 125 battery. Firstly Bikeworld were looking for E119.50 for one. Most other places were looking for between E100 - 110 for one until Mountjoy said they had one for E79.50. Fair play to Mountjoy but the other places should be ashamed of themselves, especially Bikeworld. For a place which has the biggest premises and probably the most custom they are a rip off.

Anyways, while I was in Mountjoy I asked if they had a spare downpipe for my exhaust. They didnt have one in stock. Fair enough. But then they told me it'll take 2 WEEKS to order one in!! Every other place said the same thing aswell. Whats the story here, Varadero's are fairly common bikes and it takes that long to order in one part!?

Maybe its because they think I'm some stupid 20 year old and they they can feed me any old bollocks, but that kind of wait is disgraceful. Is this what the whole bike industry in Ireland is like??

Can anyone tell me a decent shop in the Dublin / Kildare area that would have this spare any quicker??

Cityspares.ie - Never had a bad experience with them yet. Also that's very dear - I got a battery for my bros in bikeworld for 50/60 quid.

I know, i was expecting to pay about E50 max for one. They said its some kind of special battery or something, but going back to my original point, thats probably a load of bollocks...........

Afaik, the Varadero is a sealed battery, so in theory it should never need replacing. When you do have to replace it, it costs you an arm or a leg. Honda have a bad habit of doing a Sony on their bikes - making the parts non-standard.

I had to replace the handlebars on my Varadero. Stock bars wouldn't fit, so I had to order it from Honda - two weeks and €140 :(

Always go to Mountjoy for spare parts, unless they don't have it, and you're in urgent need. They're by far the best value in the city.

The bros is a sealed battery too. They can go if left discharged for an age like mine. I tried getting it back with a 'smart charger' but to no avail.

Do you remember the letters on the battery?

Thats it! The code on it is YTZ 7S. Anyone know why its a sealed battery and what are the advantages of them? Does that also explain why there is no kick start on it aswell??

I tried to charge my original battery aswell with one of thsoe chargers, but to no avail :(

A hundred quid for any bike battery sounds well dodgy. I was pissed off with the thoughts of spending €50 on one recently, so I didn't bother and some day the thing will let me down properly and I'll have no one to blame but myself.

Manufacture parts are always well over priced. It cost me over €110 to get a new set of bars from my Dragstar from Yamaha. Any non Orignal part will cost a hell of a lot less.

Anyone know if that Bike shop in Bray near the Solas Light factory is still open/operating? Keep meaning to call in, but never get a chance...

(and no, I don't mean the Bray Honda Centre, or Maddocks, I mean the other place that's near the Solas light factory, that's supposedly open on Sunday, is not a rip-off merchant (like the other aforementioned pirat...I mean er... Bike shops) and is more deseving of my hard earned money).

Ordered my downpipes from davidsilverspares.co.uk today for E280. Cheaper than anywhere here but still an absolute rip - off IMO. Biking is expensive lads isn't it?? Im beginning to get disillusioned with the whole scene TBH.

Too many scumbags ripping us off all the time

Shop around - but bike parts from the manufacturers will always be expensive. So many models in a relatively small market. Many car spares are expensive too, even though production runs are in the millions not thousands.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

What did you do to the bike that you needed replacement downpipes?

General rule of thumb in dublin is shop in Mountyjoy motors or Cityspares for parts.

Yep - it's Old Skool Motorcycles you're looking for. He doesn't open Sundays any more, but he's open Tuesday to Saturday. Phone 01-2115633.
The owner is John, and he'll look after you.
