i recently downloaded star wars 3 revenge of the sith form bittorrent, well actually azureus. up until i tried to play it my sound was fine. but when i opened windows media player 10 it said there was a codec error. i have windows xp pro with some very old fujitsu speakers, which work fine, until the codec error. now i have no sound at all, even though there is power comming from the adaptor, but the power light on the speakers wont come on. i tried plugging in headphones and there was no sound, everything seems fine in device manager, and i even tried a program called divx, but no joy. im sure this was a as a result of media player and the error downloading codec, the sound just seems to have been taken from my pc without any indication or trace. this is really frustrating, can anyone please help??????

Probably from you downloading ILLEGAL FILMS! I would imagine your speakers are borked if theres no light, check the cables again and make sure everything is properly in place. Otherwise a new set of basic speakers cost very little.

Use a set of headphones to make sure you need new speakers before forking out for them. I have heard of people often trying to play an avi and having no video/sound/both and this is usually, as you have deduced, down to a codec. Download and install VLC media player here. Try play the avi with VLC and on failing that download a package of codecs, something advertised along the lines of 'every codec you will ever need'.

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Sounds & Audio Devices
Select Volume Tab then untick Mute.

Don't discuss illegal downloads around here please.
