Oral Irish Interview

Just been called for an interview for an IT Job in Local Authority, and they've stated that I will need to do an Irish Oral Interview.

I did pass irish for the leaving and can hardly string two words together. Was acutally in a primary school today as part of my job, and the irish on the board could have been German.....that's how bad I am.

What can I expect for the oral, what can I do to prepare?.
I know it's a bad reflection to do irish for 10yrs at school and not be in a position to speak it, even in a limited fashion.

Even if I was in a position to understand the questions, i'd be happy, but I don't want to sit there with a blank stare with beads of sweat rolling down my face.

I did state in the application that I did not possess any Irish. (I know it's a very negative statement, but....)

Why not contact them and ask them (roughly) what is involved in the Irish test - i.e level of proficiency expected etc.? Then, go find out someone who gives grinds in Irish locally. I bet they'd be willing to give you a quick lesson or two.

If you can't speak any irish and have to take an interview in irish - you're screwed. Ring them up, tell you don't know any, and see how they react.

May as well be upfront instead of making a tit of yourself.

If its a local authority, they ask about yourself, the area you live in, interests, hobbies, basic stuff like that. i had to do one 3 yrs ago for a local authority. Not a bit scary.

Thanks for the replies, will get the wife to give me a few refresher lessons, and prepare the usual answers.....hopefully I'll give the correct answer to the appropriate questions.
