Having a super processor and ram wont necessarily speed up your computer, what internet connection have you currently got?

If you're on dialup there's not a whole lot you can do. If your connection seems ridiculously slow, you may want to scan your system for viruses/spyware, as many of these will download/upload files in the background or otherwise abuse your connection.

Try running some antispyware programs and antivirus like Stephen said, could be causing some problems with your net.

Although if your dsl router/modem is only reporting a speed of 128kbps it sounds like there might be a problem with your line - you might want to get onto your telco/isp.

Do as above and also I would suggest making sure cookies are enabled. I find it speeds up general browsing. Get a little app called DU meter. It'll monitor your connection speed. You might be able to see spikes of activity or no activity at all ( in which case it's not a virus etc ). Did I read somewhere that if you change you DNS settings (eircon) then this helps?
You could also try resetting your router....
this has worked for me in the past.

    Hope this helps

The main item to consider is what type of connection you have.
