Sleeper Cell on FX [SEVERE SPOILERS] Do not read unless you have seen the finale

Anyone been watching this over the last few weeks now? Very good series, however i thought the finale last night wasnt what it should have been, given the quality of the lead up to it. For example, Farik was always thinking 3 steps ahead. He would never unecessarily do anything that could jeopardise the operation. So would he really send Darwyns ex tickets to a baseball game that he was planning to attack, after she had went to the cops with concerns about her boyfriend and his mid eastern friends? (i know Farik pretended to be Jewish as his cover and used a Jewish name, but still, for a guy who was so meticilious (sp?) in his planning it was a potentially dangerous thing to do. Also, Darwyn and the Bosnian were his most trusted cell members. They all viewed Tommy as little more than a reformed Californian high school jock, who seemed more caught up by the excitement of the whole thing than the muslim revenge side. Christian (the French guy) was viewed as unreliable with his weakness for getting drunk and chasing birds. Yet they put Tommy in a position during the attack where, if he had second thoughts, he could cut and run. Surely if you are a terrorist who has unreliable people in his cell, you take them to the part of the operation where they cant get out and death is certain, and leave your most loyal guys on the fringes because you know they wont back out. Also, after months and months of ingenious blending in and covering his own back, at the climax of it all Darwyn makes a half arsed attempt to disarm Christian which nearly results in him being killed. And at the end of it all, Darwyns ex doesnt seem to be particularly shocked to see her ex con boyfriend dressed as a fireman during an attempted terrorist attack. Hmmm

One or two things I was wondering:

Was Darwyn an FBI agent or an ex con working for them? I missed the first two episodes, but throughout the series Id always assumed he was a fed, seeing as we see a shot of his FBI I.D at the opening credits of each episode, and that his story of having just been fresh out of prison after 6 years was just his cover story for the terrorists and his girlfriend. However, when the LAPD were questioning the old black muslim prisoner, he recognised the photo of Darwyn, and it all seemed like he had been an inmate. In the first episode, had he been undercover in prison trying to get acquainted with the terrorist recruiter (the old black guy) so that he could get linked with terrorists on the outside? Id hardly think the FBI would give a paid informant an ID. But at the same time, he was hardly undercover in prison for 6 years was he? Or did the FBI pick up an inmate called Darwyn Al Hakim (the false surname Darwyn uses throughout the series) and replace him with a lookalike FBI agent, which would be why the old black guy thought he recognised his photo?
Also, how did the old guy get connected with the Arabs on the outside? And who was passing his messages to them?

LoLth : No Idea what is a spoiler and what isnt, seeing as I have not seen this program (and now I dont want to seeing as I know how it ends). Title edited to warn about spoilers. Apologies to those who have had their fun ruined already and a severe glowering at Tha Gopher for lack of thought.

I meant to post about this. It was advertised as the new 24. Not quite, but it was a good series. I only watched the first hour last night so I do not know what happened in the end. It is repeated on Friday night.
To answer your question, Darwin is a FBI agent and he was sent undercover to jail because they knew the old black guy was a recruiter for sleeper cells. Darwin saved his life in jail and therfore gained his trust. He gave him Fariq's name and it went on from there. Bobby was the first member of the cell that Darwin got close to and it was Darwin that shot him, kind of as a mercy killing because the others were stoning him to death.

Even though I do not know the end I thought it was a good series. It gave a rather unbiased view for an american show. They were not quite monsters, like the 9/11 guy who was up in court recently. Doubt they will make a second though.

I really liked Sleeper Cell. I watched it when it was originally on HBO (I think?) over christmas.

I liked the ending (I'm saying nothing about it), other than its WIIIIDE open for a second series.

    Worth checking out.

You're right...it's not the new 24. It's MUCH MUCH better. Although 24 is actually pretty good this year after a couple of dodgey seasons.

I think it was more realistic than 24, but not necessarily better. Although both deal with terrorism, they both handle it in different ways.

tbh I think the word finale followed by a sentence beginning "for example" shouldve alerted most people it could contain a spoiler.

What other channel shows it anyway?

I didn't expect to see this thread 5 months after the show aired.
If you have a question go for it.
