Maxtor Maxline Plus II urgently needed!

Ok so here's the story. I have a maxtor one touch 250GB external drive. This contains a Maxtor Maxline Plus II 250GB IDE drive. I plugged the power supply of my laptop (which has a higher voltage output than the power supply of the Maxtor One Touch) into the hard drive and pop.....

Well it didn't actually blow up but something went wrong. I took the drive out of the case, put into a PC and it's not even spinning up. I presumed the case would take the shock and protect the HD but no such luck...

So I'm thinking I need the circuit off one of these drives to try and recover my data (all my university stuff, mp3's, pics, etc)... and it might work. I've crawled through ebay for the last 2 months and am not prepared to pay 100 euro for something that might not work and void my waranty on a new disk by taking off the circuit. SO I've been looking for a chaep 2nd hand or even better a broken drive...

So does anyone have a faulty one of these discs (that still spins up), or know anyone who might have one? I'd appreciate any help...

I would have a MaxLine II 250GB ATA/133 HDD, not sure if it is any help as the PLUS is missing
(disk is spinning but developed that nice clicking sound I heard numerous times from Maxtor drives....)

Well it's worth a try if it's of no use to you... How much would you like for it? It should have a model number on it like 7QTY6C...?

As you say it is not spinning up so that sounds pretty bad but on the remote chance does the drive show in windows but you cant read it ?

As I had a OneTouch die on me and took the drive out and it wouldn't work in Windows I had to use a file recovery program to read the files of the HD and transfer them to my computer. After that I formatted the Maxtor and got a third party enclosure for it and it's worked fine ever since.

if windows can pick up the hd, here is a list of free recovery progs. i found the 1st, Data Recovery the best as some you can only copy 1 file at a time until you buy the full version.

Cheers for the help guys but it's not recognised in Windows. My theory is that the circuit is fried, not allowing any juice to flow to the drive. And if I get the same drive with a working circuit and swap the circuit, that then it will spin, and work in Windows or at least allow me to run some recovery programs...
