And if so, what do you think of it? Good points and bad points? I'm thinking of buying one...

I don't have one myself, but I've sold many in my time. It's a great looking MP3 player, and if you actually manage to transfer any songs onto it the quality is great.
But the big problem, and it is a big problem is that the software used to transfer music onto the player is a MAJOR pain in the rear. Sometimes it will pick up the player, sometimes it won't. Also actually transfering music to the player is a very slow process.

If you must have looks, go for the sony. But for performance and excellent value for money pick up an iAudio X5 or a Zen Vision:M.

    Don't get one!!

My bro just had to sell his on eBay cos the software nearly drove him to tears.

    I'd get a vision:m/iPod/iAudio instead.

    What format do they take?

I was going to get one a while back when they were new to the shelves but was warned against it too

He said he had to convert tunes to atrac format. Apparently it took days to convert/transfer 20 gigs worth of tunes and the software was generally very buggy. He got very frustrated after 3 months with it and got a vision:m instead a month ago.

aye the mp3 player itself is very nice indeed, and has some of the best sound quality out there (typical from sony imo), but the software just isn't up to scratch at all because of sony's proprietry atrac format.

get a vision:m instead, you'll be happier in the longrun

Aye but they stopped making it a while ago and they're pretty rare secondhand as far as I know. As for the sony: looks funky but have sony sorted out that copy-protect thing yet?

I could be wrong but I though you can use MP3's on these players not just ATRAC. What do you use for this player SonicStage or the Connect player.

I don't know anything about it, but I think you should listen to lots of NWA on it if you buy it. :D

i've got one... the 20 gb one. quite a nice player. heavy enough so yu know you have it in your pocket. i didn't get the case, but i would advise you getting it. can be a bit of a pain when you don't have any pockets (you know, when your naked ) !! It does support mp3's and atrac. software is a bit of a drag, but after a while I got it working nicely. One bad thing is that when you have an album that the songs mix into one another, the walkman doesn't do this smoothly. It leaves a fraction of a second of blank between the songs. - enough so you'd notice it. hope this help.

Just turned it on and realised the screen doesn't work..... Put you money back in your pocket!

AFAIK I think if you use ATRAC instead of MP3, Gapless is supported. You can use the Connect player or SonicStage 4.0 AFAIK. (Because I don't have one). SonicStage is meant to be better then the Connect Player. I've heard the OLED screen is impossible to see in bright sunlight, so you need a remote. Theres a review here...http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=149099

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I felt it was better to post here than start a new thread. I bought one of these swanky machines y'day and have since been trying to put songs on it. The software is terrifingly bad, which is a pity because the player itself is brilliant. Anyway, does anyone have any advice on how to put songs on the damn thing?! Seems that there's some licensing issues, like the songs are protected, but these are songs I've taken off my own cd's.

    Any help? Cheers

You will need to rip these CD's to your Hard Drive first, use windows media player to rip them to MP3 or WMA, then you can bring them across, the crappppppyyyy sony connect seem not to like CD's less than 5 years old (relase date, not how old the CD is) something to do with copy protection, anyway you can get all your music on this way, might take a bit longer but its no big task.

worked for my gf's player when i downloaded the newest sonicstage player.. i think its 4 or something

    FYI,

Got the display problem fixed, Sent it back to Sony, they fixed it no probs.

Upgraded the firmware - updated the Sonic Stage (To CP4). this helped any problems i was having. You have to delete all the songs of your player, then upgrade, then put the songs back on you player via CP4, then it works like a charm.
