Spotted this bird on the roof of a neighbours house at yesterday morning, on the coast in North County Dublin. Maybe it's not unusual but I've never seen one like it before.

It stood about three foot tall.

    Anyone know what it is?

aye, sure is a Heron.Great pic of one here:http://blogs.warwick.ac.uk/images/johnrawnsley/2004/11/23/heron.jpg

There's one that often perches along the Dodder in between Milltown and the smurfit plant on beaver row.
Such a beautful bird and amazing to see taking off / landing.

Herons are fantastic birds alright :) . There are loads of them on the Dodder. There's also a heronry down in Bushy Park.

Well, I counted 14 of them along the Malahide Viaduct on the train this morning.

Since seeing this one at the weekend I've been keeping a look out and did see a few on the Malahide viaduct.

    Thanks for the info guys.

Counted 18 this morning, that doesnt include the ones that I suspect are swimming just beneath the water.
    And a couple of Cormorants
