Tis the baby of the family with 1.8 20v engine. That said it drove along in an agreeable fashion on the way home (about 40 miles).

Electrics front windows, sunroof, mirrors, auto, leather, climate control, fully adjustable seats and steering wheel, alloys, radio/cassette with CD stack thingy in boot (it'll take a week to understand the Blaupunkt Madrid set up), airbags both sides. no ABS suprisingly though I've never had it in any other car and I'm still here. I may discover other features in the next day or two.

Nice car Mike, I had a 2.5 diesel a few years ago and it was a great car.Good luck with it.

Good luck with it Mike. What year is it? 95 or 96?

It is an unusually high spec car for a MkI A6. Most MkI A6 models here are basic spec with very little toys. Was it originally a UK car by any chance?

The only ones I have ever seen with a generous spec like that was the 2.6 litre V6 model.

Its 96 model, its Irish sold by Ballsbridge Motors

On the spec - so many toys yet you have to wind the back windows!

    What mileage?

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Congrats Mike and best of luck with your new car :)

Was that the one in Kildare or Carlow you were eyeing up? With an asking price of €1950, which no doubt you haggled down a bit, you got yourself a bargain :D

Something like that doesn't suprise me anymore. This is VRT-poverty spec-Ireland after all, especially for older cars. My previous car, an originally Irish (pre celtic tiger) January '94 BMW 530i V8 did not have airbags or leather as standard...

Cheers all, the milage is 101,000 so bang on 10,000 a year which is on the right side of thrashed!

It'll needs new fluids - engine oil, AFT, power steering plus filters the last sevice was about 7000 miles ago and I'd feel happier if the blood was transfused. The timing belt will need doing by end of year.

Bond 007 not fed up with Mercs only fed up with lowish spec for highish price!

so how much did it set you back?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Less than a 96 Merc more than a 96 micra! About 1900, the seller was'nt going to budge much and frankly I don't blame him. With a quick vacume and wash I could proberly stick it in the paper for 2500 and expect a few calls.

Nice one, all those old Audis (even the 80) have some sort of indefinable cool.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Nice buy. Was looking at an A6 estate (same year) but found it difficult to get what i wanted. Check out the new A6 2.0 diesel with multitronic transmisson(auto). Better performance and economy than a manual. On my list in a couple of years.

Bet though you can't but take a second look when you see one of those W124 driving past. ;)
