    Hi All,

Just a quickie - Does anyone know where I can buy sensor swabs - ccd cleaning kit in Dublin - I need one kinda quickly, going on holidays next week & just have realised ccd is quite dusty!! :-(

    Thanks in advance,

You can buy the kits at most camera shops - the 2nd hand one on Georges St (cant rem the name of it - think its the camera exchange ) sells them, they definitely sell the 'syringe' type ones - not sure if they are the same swab kits your refferring to.

Also the one the camera shop at the top of Grafton st sells the kits. These are not the high end ones - these are the -20 euro ones.

If your really stuck and in a hurry the camera shop at the back of Brown thomas - does it in store with a air blower and charges 25 euro while you wait. They do sample before and after shots to show you the difference. If you have never had it cleaned and its manky it might be worth getting them to do it for the first time to get rid of the worst of it.

    Hi,

Thanks for the replies guys! Appreciated!

ChityWest - any suggestions on which might be best - you're right - I'm a CCD cleaning virgin! I've read that using a blower might cause damage to the CCD - or is that only if the "blow" is too strong?

    Any help much appreciated..

Don't ever to be tempted to use canned air, you could end up with tiny drops of propellant all over the CCD.

In 2 years, I've never had to touch the sensor to clean it. I bought one of these, and it does a great job. They're much better than the bog standard air blowers for cleaning lens etc, and safe to use, as there's no sensor contact involved. I found mine in Jessops up north for about £7, so I'd guess Jessops opposite Trinity would be a good bet, though other shops will probably stock them too.

PS. one other thing to bear in mind is that it's forbidden to take compressed air, or any of the cleaning fluids used for the swab methods onto planes, even checked in, just in case you were planning on actually taking a cleaning kit on holliers. The rocket blower on the other hand is fine
