My nephew who will be 5 this summer is interested in starting a martial art can someone suggest the most suitable one for a child of this age and also can you recommend a club in the Cork city area that is Kid friendly preferably one that seperates the smallers kids for the bigger ones and gears the training towards the them.

Thanks any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Maybe I shoudl start a Clever Little Monkeys franchise?

I'd recommend a Judo club, it would be the most sport based and would probably have a friendly atmosphere, rather than the disciplinarian (sp?) clubs I've found with a lot of Karate style schools.

Make sure the club is fun and child friendly, this is way more important than what they're teaching.

Judo is great for kids. And the judo club in Ballincollig is relatively new and has a lot of young members. The coach is a friend of mine and he's bang on. Any kids judo class I know of is based on fun. The kids i teach love it and I'm sure it's the same in Ballincollig.

    Best of luck!

Hi, I've got a daughter of 4 and she does kickboxing in the same club as me. As she's young its more for her to have fun, and she loves it. The children are spilt into groups so the younger children don't get hurt (my daugther is the youngest there). I would even enroll him in a few and let him pick which he likes the best.
    Good Luck.
