I use a LCD monitor to play games and even though its a samsung i find the display scaling looks poor with resolutions below 1280x1024.(even in games)
I have heard you can scale the image with the video card down to lower resolutions with black bars and better/little/no interpolation then with the monitor handling the scaling. However my lcd screen shows up as a crt screen under nvidia display manager and also blocks the video scaling option on the card. The card is DVI-I compatible but i want to know would getting a dvi-i to vga or similer cable allow the screen to be shown as a lcd screen under nvidia display manager and hence provide a conversion from analog vga to dvi with a small loss in quality than a pure DVI-D connection.
    Any help appreciated;)

The adapter doesn't do any analog/digital conversion, it simply rewires the DVI out to VGA standards and at the same time notifies the Vid card to output analog via the DVI port instead. Sooooo, the card is still in analog mode and won't give up the goods (I'm in the same boat, old FP with no digital in).

Maybe you need to change the display drivers in Windows - you might be able to get specific ones from Samsung, or just try "plug & play monitor" if it's not already on that.

Thanks, but i have installed the specific samsung driver and it still shows up as a crt monitor in display manager under nvidia control panel.
