Thinking of buying an external HD.

I have been looking at SATA2 HD and then putting this in an external enclosure.

I am looking at this drive.

Can anyone reccomend an external enclosure that can support SATA2.

Here are two suitable cases which will support sata/sata2. I do however have to say that there isn't great sata compatibitly using external. ALso speeds will be set to usb so the advantages of sata2 are not great.

    Komplett have:

Marx have: ( Get the Sata 3.5"case Icy Box )

    Hope this helps. :)

i have that emagic one myself. Does the business...however it's very noisy but i think all are tbh and the "teeth" of the power cable got managled for it, got bent and skewed and the like, i have to sort out all the pins for it now and again.

USB 2.0 can handle 480Mbps, so afaik, thats not an issue.

that one on Komplett can only handle 150Mbps, not the 300Mbps of the HD.

I am looking for an enclosure that can handle 300Mbps.

that other link has no info about the enclosures.

the reason for SATA2 is that on komplett at least all the fast drives are SATA2.

fair enough, yes my friend has the komplett one its not as fast as expected, i would go with the marx one, you may google the case to fine further specs, it should support 300mp/s.......

I have come across a company through ebay which is selling external sata hd enclosures with the hd for a good price.

I have emailed them to see what the transfer rate of the drive is.

you could also check out eSATA, was doing a bit of research into external HDs there a while ago and just breezed over it.
    But it looks promising.

    indeed.

I did come across that but you need a eSATA cable and pci card and what not.

Also these enclosures seem to be deer.

I will be using the drive with my desktop and laptop, so eSATA would not be of real benefit.

Allow me to throw American Media Systems' SATA to *SATA+USB2 DS-2316SU2SBK into the ring. This is an excellent rugged enclosure that won't compromise on cooling thanks to its generously MiniDisc sized 8cm fan that will adequately meet your SATA needs and then some.

It retails at €47 and when I inquired with them a few months ago they offered to put me in touch with one of their dealers in Europe so I would receive it sooner and pay less on shipping.

This is the Humvee of HDD enclosures my friend.

*It has an external SATA port on the outside if you find yourself somewhere you could make use of it.
