is there any hatred between these two professions? or what about in the corridors of DIT Bolton street, or in any other university for that matter. feel free to debate the issue...

You ask about two professions but only mention one?

As for Architechs... they designed the extention in DIT Bolton street... Its a maze. I hope there is never an need to evacuate the place in a hurry. Space, Light, Form... yeah. Sod practicality.

Engineer, plagued with these buggers for years.

Nah I see none really. Its mainly between the architects and technologists imo

wups, title was supposed to be 'engineers vs architects'.

since there isnt a forum dedicated to architecture, it made sense to pin architects against engineers.
i'd imagine there's more tension between architects and 'techies' tho. perhaps architects look down on techies a bit, and techies hate architects for getting to study that course ahead of them... ??

bolton st. certainly is a maze. its minging. hopefully when they move campus to grangegorman something decent will be built.

Architects do a little dandy on some paper and expect everything to be alrite, lets just say Ive seen loadza house plans with the chimney stuck in either a valley or some other awkward place, enough said.
Wait, its a bit like communionism, in theory it works.

Complete nonsense, most of my engineering class in UCD could have done architecture but didnt want to.However the situation may be different in DIT I suppose. They spend 5 years doing esssentially a design degree that limits careers prospects outside architecture. They also get paid less upon graduation and suffer from less job demand. However it is also a great course and they are both great careers. On my personal opinion,I have no anomisty towards architects but there may be in some courses where the studying engineers are failed architects who didnt get the required points. And this may lead to jealously and an inferiority complex. But overall I would say more engineers make it to high level positons throughout the business world.

I came across an architects drawing once that had a room with no way in or out of it. Got a good laugh out of it.

id agree with the possible 'jealousy' thing. anyone would be a bit envious upon not getting their first choice. ive heard of some that qualify as technologists and then apply to study architecture afterwards, but only a few have done so. although architecture is significantly more design orientated, theyre both great courses.

and yeh, architects probably make some mistakes during the design process, like rooms with no entrances. but on the main part their work is mostly incredibly sophisticated.

Not a big fan off them.

A lot of them come up with plans and layouts but dont think of practical things.

I've countless number of stories about them and thats only with 2 years working as an engineer.

Two major differences between engineers and Archs is that they dont get the practical side of things such as being able to build the thing they design while we dont get Architects.

And dont get me started on their dodgy drawings!

I would have to agree that the Architects and Technologists dont really get on all that well.
Im doing the technology course in Bolton Street and from what I could see the architects seem to think that they have some sort of superiority over us "techies".
I would also agree with what was said about the whole design thing without practicality! Aslong as the thing looks nice it doesnt matter seems to be the general consensus amongst the architects Iv had to deal with......but hey, without that mindset, us techies and engineers wouldnt really have a whole lot to do so we cant really moan all that much, can we?
