Colour Calibration of monitors

    Hi all,
this is something that has been nagging at me for a while now: Exactly how does the shot that you've spent an hour working on in PS look on someone elses monitor?
I use a CRT and a TFT in a dual monitor set up and my pics look markedly different on both. I also have a TFT in work and again my pics look so different from both of the ones at home. Now throw in a printer into the mix and you have yet another 'interpretation' of your picture with yet another colour balance that doesn't really match any of the three monitors.
I know that hardware calibration systems exist out there that stick on to the front of the monitor, has anyone used them? And what's the story with mointors like this?
Here's a handy little calibration.exe that I found along the way.

There's a guy in the services forum that has one of those hardware units, thinks he charges €15 to calibrate a monitor..

I have the same problem so I ordered one of these http://www.colorvision.com/profis/profis_view.jsp?id=601

They seemed to be the most recommended. I'm waiting for Mr Posty to deliver it so I'll let you know what its like once I get it.

There's also the Pantone Huey, which looks interesting, not to mention cheap! The Spyders are supposed to be good too, so I'd be interested in hearing how you get on. I'm just using QuickGamma for the moment, and while this is better than nothing I really need to get a hardware solution soon

Sorry for dragging this thread back up ,but it's something thats been bugging me lately.
I don't use my pc anymore ,as I can't get gamma configured properly .
Its a dell machine with a LG tft.

Anyone come to any conclusions ??

I just use a laptop as i find it's own setup seems to be grand.

A calibrated crt monitor will give you the best results.

I use one of the Colourvision Spyders mentioned above. Calibrate 2 monitors using it and the pic looks the same on both monitors.

When i make prints they look the same as on the monitor, which is the idea...
