I want to get rid of alot of stuff on my computer getting loads of message's saying windows virtual memory is low!

Anyways do I need Java! My Jave file is 57.4MB?

    Realtek AC97 39.0MB?

Hewlett-Packard 91.5 MB I went to delete this but it said warning may cause some programs not to work! I thought this was for printer????

    Do i need these.

Also I D/L a driver one day dont know which one it was and dont ask my why I done it but it started installing then came up warning your computer will not function with this somethnig like that the file was really big anyone know how I can find out what it is and get rid of it!

Or anythnig else what would be helpful e.g for getting rid of stuff.

I already ran Scandisk, Easycleaner all that kinda stuff.

    Thanks.

i'd just do a system restore to a date when you know everything was fine. that usually does the trick ;)

a lot less hassle to than installing apps and deleting bits and pieces etc....

edit: oh you're talking about deleting things you dont need.. well i use the crapcleaner to take care of all my day to day trash. realtek is your audio so id leave that. you probably need java, not the HP file though.

Yes, you need Java if you want your Internet browsing to work properly.

Yes, you need Realtek AC97 if you want sound to come out of your computer.

If you're that paranoid about what's on your hard drive do the only thing you can, format it and reinstall Windows.

Why not just increase Virtual Memory?

Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Performance Settings -> Change -> Increase the size of the paging file to about twice the amount of ram you have in both initial and maximum size. Click OK and reboot the machine.

This is assuming you're using Windows XP Pro SP2

The virtual memory has nothing to do with the amount of programs on your computer, its about the number of programs running at the same time.

The availability of virtual memory has less to do with what's installed on your computer and more to do with what's actually running on your computer. Going through the Add/Remove programs list and removing anything that looks big, probably won't fix your problem.

The fact that you mentioned "easycleaner" makes me suspect that you have downloaded and installed a whole pile of "free" applications from the internet, which are the real cause of your memory problems.

For a start, download ad-aware and scan for spyware. Remove everything it finds. That's a good start. Then go through your add/remove programs and remove all the crap that you downloaded, used once, and never see again. Like easycleaner. If you ever need them again, you can just reinstall them. Then run ad-aware again.

I thought it was the memory on the Hard drive seen how there's like only
    about 6% free on it!

    I have Windows XP SP2.

Spybot Search and destory I run that?

    Virtual Memory 96-192 MB
Recommended is 573 MB. I guess that's the problem

Virtual Memory uses hard drive space... You'll need to clear out your files, tempory internet files, caches and empty the recycle bin.

use spacemonger to see what is really eating up the space - downloads and other junk perhaps

    delete temporary internet files
    run scandisk on drive
delete any "found" folders in c:\

if using XP and it's been stable for a long time and you havn't installed software or updates then you could shrink down the system restore to say 5% and reboot and bring it up again to 12%

reboot in safe mode and run %temp% and delete the files in it

golden rule - don't delete anything you don't recognise, people have deleted their system folders because they didn't use the files there
