Some advice please

Hi

First time posting in here so please don't eat me

Ok, basically I am sick of using the bus to go back and forth and I don't want a car cause they are too big and scary LOL

After a long while thinking about it I would like to get the Vespa GTS 250 i.e. Now I have no provisional or anything so I would like to know what to do next,

A) do I apply for the A1 provisional and then do the A Restricted?
while I am on the A will I not be able to ride my 250 cc?
C) i can't seem to find any insurance calculators for motorbikes?

I'm sorry if this is all very silly but i have to start somewhere and I am relying on you good people

No, you will need to apply for a A licance. (A1 are only for bikes up to 125cc)
You can only get quote's from over the phone. You'll need to ring Aon. Depending on your age and sex, they may not quote you on that. (IE: a young male will be screwed)
Oh and you also have to be 18 to apply for the A Licance.

Cool. I am a 26 year old female. I thought you had to have one license before apply for the other, no?

only if you applied for the A1 first off. But if your over 18 you can get an A first thing. You should have no problem getting a quote from Aon. But best do that first before you get your test done and your licance, so you can make sure it worth your time.

You can apply for an A license once your over 18, no need to get the A1 first. Best of luck with it, but one piece of advise is get some training, it will be the best money you spend in relation to your safety.

At 26 you can also get quotes from Carole Nash without any NCB.

No Claims Bonus. If you are under 25 (I think) then Carole Nash would require you to have built up riding experience with another insurer before quoting you at all. Over 25's can get a quote from CN without any prior riding experience. Aon will quite probably be cheaper on a scooter anyway, CN seem to prefer older bikes IME.

Thats great, thanks a million for all teh advice. One more question, is bikeworld on the naas road my best bet to find this model that I want. Any vespa dedicated stores in Dublin? There used to be one on the quays but I think its gone

Bike world are ripoffs. Dont go near them. There is a shop that sells all vespas, down on the quaes. Near to that new bridge. errr.... cant remember the name... but its on your way out of the city. Sorry I cant be anymore help

Scooter Island is the name of it and as far as I remember its on the Quays by the flats, Oliver Bond I think. Should be in phone book, but its not on the web.

Get yourself a maunaully geared Vespa PX200cc bike if you intend to sit your full "A" licence on it and pass. (You can't take the "A" test on a PX125cc bike for some reason in this country. :rolleyes:) The PX200 has a higher resale value also. Don't forget to budget for an armoured rainproof jacket, full face helmet, leather gloves, boots, strong lock and chain and waterproof leggings.
