I went to see Low last night. It wasn't the first time I've seen them but I don't actually own any of their albums. I think it's about time I changed that. Last night's gig was great.

They have quite a few, so any opinions on what their best album is would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

Great band.. Their more recent albums have a slight shift in style towards a more accessible sound (when they started out they made just about the quietest, slowest 'rock' music possible) so it depends whether you want to dive in at the deep end straight away or dip your toes in the water first. If it's the latter, then I recommend starting with their most recent album "The Great Destroyer" followed by "Things We Lost in The Fire" from 2001 and "Trust" from 2003. If you want to go straight for their more sparse early sound then the debut album "If I Could Live In Hope" or "Secret Name" from 1998 are good starting points. One great thing about them is their consistency.. they don't really have any bad records, if you like one or two of them you'll probably like the rest too.

I second Lunar Junkie's recommendations to the letter. Avoid the new remix EP like the plague though. And if you can get the B-sides box for a reasonable price (I know it's expensive in Australia) I highly recommend that too. Oh and the album they recorded with the Dirty Three, the two bands work together perfectly.

First one I bought was Secret Name after hearing the lead single Immune on John Peel.

Great album and a good starting point.
Trust, The Great Destroyer and Things We Lost In The Fire would be my next choices.

The b-sides box is cool as is the Christmas album.

I worked backwards with Low, starting with their later stuff. The outstanding album for me is 'Trust' though. I've only been listening to it since the start of the year, but I'd still listen to it every other day.

As has been said before, 'The Great Destroyer' is arguably their most 'accessible' album and is an excellent enough starting point.

And in a few months time go and invest in the Christmas album.

you should check the album they did with dirty 3.
"in the fishtank" - they do an amazing version of Down My the River.

The best album is "Things we lost in the fire"

You should check them all though. I'm a big fan of the second album -Long Division.

Saw them that time they palyed in Christ Church and that was amazing

    2nd that,
just as good are Trust and Secret Name, all have some great tunes,
still think their latest album lacks some of the quality on the previous 3 albums
