If you go the France route, it's 99 Euro on the ship for 1 person and car including berth (think you share but not sure).
You get 7-8 hours in the port.
That's loads of time to go to the hypermarkets etc.
Champagne is very cheap 10 Euro a bottle
Norwhere in Ireland can you get close to that.
Tesco and Dunnes 30% off wines and champagnes last week would have been good but you can't beat the France route, 2 days travelling though.
Just make sure your guests like French wine!

I just thought it might be worth Mentioning... ya might have to pay corkage (@10-25% of "de value of drink" to de hotel) if ya bring your own wine to de wedding...

i'll ask me auld fella for good places to go in france.... hes done de same thing loads of times ie(pick up 10 dozen bottles or so in france) and come back de same day.....

its a very good idea if your "BIG" into your Wine/Champers... ya'll save a gud bit of money if ya drink a lot..... udderwize,,,, dont bother...

Good point, it does be between €6-€12 a bottle. The worst thing is a lot of hotels will open any left over bottles towards the end of the night and put them out on tables just so they can charge the corkage on them.

    Cheers guys,

I looked into the ferry idea a bit more at the weekend. It was over €700 return as they don't do the cheap rate between 14 June & 30 August. That puts the brakes on that idea.

Anyone use any irish wine wholesalers/warehouses? Do they even exist?

Yeah the hotel we are using are charging corkage. €10 a btl of wine and I think its €30 for champers. They reakon they are doing us a favour at the rate!!

I waited til Dunnes had their offer on.. Picked up €300 worth of wine and got over €100 back on the missus's dunnes card!!

An other very cheap option is to buy Lidl or Aldi €5 a bottle plonk and then get your own customised wedding labels!!

By they way €10 seems steep to me, we were charged €7.. only €3 in the difference but if your get 40 bottles of wine thats €120!!

Drinking a nice bottle of Bordeaux at the moment! €5.49 from Lidl. As good as anything I've paid 4 times the price for. I doubt if your guests would know the difference!

    Dave,

Unless you are going on a holiday dont bother.

I was going to go that route last year just before our wedding, but instead I got all the wine for our wedding from sainsburys in Newry.

All in for 150 guests it cost around €230 and that was for Jacobs creek, but cant remember the red we got.

Also stocked up on beer for the wedding week. Saved a fortune.

Sainsbury's is another option, they give you a good exchange rate as well.
