Do I need a Modem

I'm going to buy a dell desktop in a day or two. There is no modem included in the price - it's an optional extra. The question is do I need it? I'll be using broadband anyway. Is there any point in me paying about €30 for one? Am I missing out on something by not getting one put in

If you have to ask, you probably don't need one.

Ask yourself - If my broadband fails for a few hours for some reason, will I feel it necessary to connect up my 56k so I can continue to compulsively view/talk/whatever.

or Will I be carrying this around with me to broadbandless friends houses and need to plug into a phone so I can continue to compulsively view/talk/whatever...

If you need a modem later for whatever reason you can get a decent internal one for about €10

Don't bother, and no modem should cost €30 these days. Money could be better spent on... Just about anything.

If you have broadband then just don't bother... after using broadband if you have to use dial-up you'll prefer to just stay offline...

You can always pick up a second hand on later on if you need one, €30 is pricey for a modem these days.
