Being forced to accept contract from a subcompany to your current employer...

    Following scenario: Employee has a permanent non-time limited contract with a company. The whole group he is working in is being moved to a "sub-company" (the job/money/work location stays the same). Is this legal? Can the company force the employee to accept the new contract with the "sub-company" without offering redundancy as an option?
