I know that some ISP's have been forced to give details of their hardcore file uploaders to authorities in the crack down of copyright infringment. I'm wondering could the same act be taken to force the owners of such websites as boards.ie, to unveil the identity of people who have voted in private polls. I've seen a few polls around this site asking where people get their music, what size mp3 collection they have etc etc.

Yahoo and MS have cooperated with the U.S. Justice Department during their investigations of whatever. And I think that Google cooperated with the Chinese authorities. So it would appear that boards.ie might be at risk, but who knows?

This has been discussed before. The only categorical answer available to us at the moment is that no one knows. This area of the law is untested.
