Help with pressurised central heating system

    Hi,
I'm converting my attic, which includes moving the storage tanks and existing plumbing. I have already moved the cold water tank but I'm a bit confused by the central heating plumbing.
I originally had an open vent system (heated by back-boiler), but I got gas central heating about 6 years ago, and they converted it to a pressurised system. The problem is, the small feed-tank from the old system is STILL connected to the system and I can't find ANY connection to the mains for re-pressurising the system? Is it possible that the small tank supplies 1bar pressure, and can be used to re-pressure the system?
The feed from the small tank has a stopcock in the hot press, and the gas-fitters installed another valve directly below this stopcock (I think it's an on/off valve, operated by a spanner).
The boiler is under the stairs, and has a pressure meter on it, and a pipe from this leads outside to let off extra pressure, but there's no sign of any inlet other than the pipe leading up to the old expansion tank.

The hot feed to the living room rads goes up from the hot press, across the attic, and down beside the chimney breast. There's an expansion chamber and bleed valve connected to this pipe, and I want to re-route all this pipework so I can lay a floor. I don't need to fully drain the system for this, but I'm just not sure how to re-pressurise it afterwards.

    Any advice on this?

Your system is supplied by the expansion tank, (not that uncommon)
That would lead me to think that the valve under the stopcock is a non return valve to prevent pressure or water travelling back up this pipe.
I have seen these systems pressureised by releasing the air in the expantion vessel fill the system, then pump expantion vessel untill required pressure is achieved.

Thanks for the reply, but how do I pump the expansion vessel?

It should have a valve like on a car wheel.

Thanks again for your help bbbaldy :D,
I see the valve you mentioned, so I presume I should attach a car/bicycle pump and just pump until the pressure reads 1 bar?

It all seems to make sense now :). Every website I've found about central heating says to use the pressure from the mains supply to restore the pressure in the system, so I wasn't thinking of looking at the expansion vessel.

Thanks a lot, I hope I can repay the favour some day (if you ever need PC repairs/advice) :)
