Solar: Flat Plate or Vacuum Tube

Have been reading a lot about these two types of collectors.

The tubes are supposed to be more efficient than flat plate. But not all the literature would suggest the same. The link below doesn't impress for the tubes. But were the tubes placed on a western elevation or am i reading it wrong?
In which case it would be the reverse and would be impressive.

    Link

My wife is also more in favour of flate plate as she finds them less offensive than the tubes.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    C.

Flat plate collectors definately better aesthetics than Tubes.
Tubes more efficient, but you have to get good ones, lots of dodgy chinese made ones around at the moment.
Tubes work in low light conditions better than Flat panels.
We have panels and they seem to be fine even in the bad weather last month.
heated a 400l tank to 30 degs or so enough to shower in.
