watch out - a bit of advice it says in the sticky at the top that it is illegal to discuss the decyrption of channels without paying for them - thats if you don't want the mods to close it.

Yeah, but there is so much available with a big dish - you can get most of the premiership games for free.etc

By all means continue the discussion but keep within the terms of the satelite boards charter so read the sticky threads.

I too have a motorised system and yes, the mind boggles at what is available for free and thru legit means. It you pick up a copy of What Satellite and browse thru the dealers, you will see what legit cards are available for purchase.

From sport to music to movies of all kinds, it is all there if you have either the time, patience or money to go seek it out.

How big of a dish would you need for this sort of stuff? And what sort of money would you be looking at all in.

    80cm is good.

a little bigger than the commonly found Sky type mesh dish which is 60cm.

the point being made is really what a motor does for you.
that brings in thousands of channels.
needless to say many are crap but there's some good stuff out there too ;)

there is an Irish vendor www.satellite.ie which should give you an idea of cost.
some people buy their equipment online and self install.

A Digital Albania card would be a good purchase for decent movies and sports.

Just got my motor from satellite.ie (noting that I ordered a Moteck and its a Strong, tsk tsk Tony :p ), and I haven't done anything with motors in the DiSEqC/USALS era, so I'll let you know if theres anything obviously difficult these days.

Hrm, wait, after googling around it appears that it -is- a Moteck in a Strong box... never knew the Germans were in to rebranding ;)

Depending on your location ~55E to ~45W, dish size, LNB type, elevation and all that nonwithstanding.

As I noticed when I went to check... I also notice the Moteck box seems to caryr a €40 premium with some of the other retailers.

And then I realised my wall mount is nowhere near sturdy enough, so theres another order waiting for you ;)

I have a motorised system, using a Strong 6355 and an 80cm dish gets from 5w to 28.5e in a residential area here in Dublin.

I get great value from it. For example, Arte is brilliant. A refreshing alternative world view.

Depending on your interests, you may have to spend time scouring the net finding out which stations carry whatever you're into. It's much more fun than being a shortwave radio enthusiast. You get a great sampling of other cultures.

While there's lot's available FTA, you may need to take out a sub with a foreign provider. That can be difficult as some don't want to sell outside of their home territories.

It'll be a sad day if the only choice is $ky.

How much does it cost for the hardware and/or installation?

    Hi lads,

Do any of ye know any reputable motorised system installer in the Cork area? I've just purchased a dreambox complete with 1m motorised setup and tbh am not confident in my own installing ability. ;)

What version of the dreambox did you go for? If you need anyhelp with it feel free to ask me. It can be a bit of a tricky beast when you first get it.

    Ah thanks Ronan...

I got the twin tuner 7025 model - can't wait for delivery. :)

I setup my original astra dish about 20 years ago lol but this motorised malarky seems a lot trickier? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Very little these days to be honest.
I've seen a Motorised FTA kit with a 1m dish for 179 euro.
If you get a Receiver with a CI it would be more, but not too much.
    Well worth it .
