    Hey All,

Me and a colleague have to go to Marseilles for work purposes but are thinking of taking a week break there at the end of June, anybody know where theres a good beach resort down this way or possibly over to Italy/Spain, doesnt have to be an Ibiza but a bit of life would be good, is St.Tropez down this way(not that we can afford it)

    Any info appreciated.

    Cheers

Marseilles is quite close to Nice if I remember, thats a good "resort". And yes St. Tropez is in the general area, as is Monaco and Cannes. Theres an excellent train line runs along the coast serving all those cities.

Hi Emporix, South of France is magic. Well worth heading towards Nice as I believe Marseille can be a bit dodgy sometimes for tourists. St Tropez is about halfway between Marseille and Nice and while there is no direct train you can get to St Maxine and bus or ferry to St Tropez . Check out a rental site www.odalys-vacances.com and look for a property called Caesar Domus in Gassin on the edge of St Tropez its a cool little location and usually reasonably priced by Cote d'Azur standards. Hope you have a good trip.

    Emprix,

head about 15miles south west of Marseille to a town called Cassis. either by car or local train from Marseille. We discovered it a few years ago and have been back a few times. It is a small french fishing village with good hotels, and not many non-french tourists. Set in the base of wonderful sandstone cliffs. Great little "livingroom in someone's house" style restaurants.

all along the coast are the Calanques, which are these beautiful small bays in the cliffs with gorgeous quiet beaches. You can either drive to them or get boats from the harbour which drop you out and collect you later in the evening. crystal clear water, quiet, a small boat comes around in the afternoon with drinks/ icecream etc. MAn I wish I was there now!

If you are in to rock climbing it is also a fantastic spot and all theorutes are bolted.

a wee linky for the area:

    Enjoy

Hi Empirix, you would end up in the town for nightlife. There is a small bar in the Caesar Domus but generally quiet. St Tropez by night has a selection of bars and restaurants to suit all budgets also lots of clubs full of "beautiful" people.
