Lisssping

    Hi all,

I wonder does anyone know any ways of curing/getting around lisping?

I have a slight/moderate lisp and am quite conscious about it (that's what a few years of bullying in secondary school can do to you :p !)

Nowadays I tend to avoid s sounds and words but there's always some unavoidable sentences that I'll need to say... like "six sizzling sausages" :(

Does anyone know if a speech therapist would be able to help? Or is there some trick around it?

I'm going to be involved with a lot of oral presentations in the future and I really want to get rid of the lisp before I start working for real :)

    Thanks for any advice!

I don't know, is it something that can be cured? Or just curbed? I notice when people have a lisp, alot mor than you'd think, but really isn't something that bothers me or anyone I know. Def no-one has ever made fun of anybody's lisp around me that I know of. But you obviously had a hard time and it does bother YOU, so I'd go check into some speach and Drama alright.

On another note, there is a girl I know who is quite cute and has a slight lisp. I swear it's the sexiest thing ever. Maybe I'm just weird, but hey....!

I know but for guys I think it's a bigger problem... and I don't have low confidence or anything (I act and debate in public). But I do wish that there was some way of making my voice more melodic :)

I heard myself on a film before (yes I was an actor lol) and I absolutely cringed when I heard myself pronouncing "is" - sounded like an izzz :(

Nearly every time I speak I try to avoid the s sounds, but like I said s is a quite popular sound (count the s's in your sentences lol!) My current friends say they don't notice my lisp but I'm sure they're just being nice...

Has anyone been to a speech therapist before?
