Camera for the sister

The sister did really well in college and has now finished up, being her 'cool' older brother I'm going to incorporate her birthday, crimbo and other misc feasts into getting her some decent camera equipment.

ok, I'm going to go SLR, min 6MP, good quality, she will be using it for quite a lot of still life, and general out-door-sie type stuff, I've got a budget of around 850 Yo-yo's or as I live in London about 600 squids (might go a bit over), I don't want to just buy the camera, but a case, a few lenses (your recommendations would be great), something fun (macro lens, or lensbaby) and storage.

What do we think? any thoughts would be great. Thanks in advance.

With that budget I dont think you'll be able to get a DSLR + other stuff.

I'd recommend the Nikon D70, should be able to get it at that price now.
Maybe the Nikon D50 and an extra lens...

I know I saw a kit for the 350D advertised in an english magazine... Had the 350D and two lenses, a bag, and a 1 gig card, for about £700?

It's generally a decision between picking a Canon or Nikon.
I highly recommend the Nikon D70, though the Canon is more popular purely due to marketing reasons. The Nikon is the better camerea, in my opinion.

Well it's the same as the old apple/PC thing, people will argue until they are blue in the face about it. I don't think you'd lose out on much going for either one, but in magazine reviews it seems that the 350 is leading that particular field. And I just adore mine :)

You've got a lucky wee sister, flangeman...
