Check out the gutshot club, nice surroundings and friendly buzz about the place.

www.gutshot.com (I think is the link).

Was over playing myself there about two weeks ago, played the Thursday 50 FO. I went over for a long weekend, and thought the poker on a thursday would keep me off the booze. Ended up finishing second, and forced* on the beer to celebrate. End result was slumping into bed at 11am on the Friday morning.

*legal disclaimer - may not actually have been forced

afaik though the gutshot tournies are all (mostly at least) self deal.......

I agree about the friendly atmosphere, but the surroundings aren't great. As Dom says, most of the tournies are self-deal, in their new tournie room. The cash games are in the dingy basement that used to be the entire club. They're fun, and there's money to be won.

Be prepared to listen to some of the worst table banter in the world though - these players are loud, and loose, and talk unbelievable rubbish sometimes. A lot of characters, and a couple of idiots too!

I'd normally consider myself a highly sociable poker player, but with the banter in that club I found myself gripping my ipod for dear life.

And then my battery went dead. But i left the headphones in anyway to avoid the inane drivel coming out of most of the people there. Some cool people there though.
The cash games are exceptionally soft!! Well at least the full two days i spent in there. They had a cash game start at one in the afternoon (on a thursday i might add). And the food there is great. But the lack of a smoking ban is quite annoying. Although I am a smoker, it was stifling in there.

I seem to remember something about registering 24 hours before playing, you couldn't just walk in and start playing. Part of the law, i think.

Ok, the sunny day perhaps influenced my judgement... doesn't everything seem better with the weather like today? :)

The surroundings might not be the most salubrious, but they are adequate.

There is some drivel at the table but as jtsuited said there are some cool people in there. I think I must have been lucky because I didn't encounter too many muppets at any of my tables.

I know there is also The Vic, but I'm not sure what it's like?

Think that might have changed as I was able to join on the night. But like over here you need to bring photo id the first time.

I think it has changed, but also it never applied to the gutshot as this is a members club (much like the Fitz) not a casino where the rule used to apply to.
