Wasps

I came across a wasp starting to build a nest in my sons playhouse the other evening. It was white in colour and a little bigger than half an egg (the nest). I decided there and then to knock it off the ceiling of the playhouse and close the door. As far as I cam aware the house is sealed and nothing can get in or out. I'm hoping the wasp that I locked inside will die and no others can get in to rebuild the nest. To be honest I haven't opened the door of the house since.

Am I right in doing this? Will they rebuild it? Could they come back again nest year and try again? Any info greatly appreciated.

Why not just open the door and look?

I'd get in the habit of keeping the door closed when the playhouse is not in use though, at least for the rest of the summer

I'll have a look this evening. I didn't want to be confronted by a couple of angry wasps thinking 'theres the b****** that knocked our home'.

I'll be keeping the door closed in future.

Exactly, just have a look, there won't be an army waiting in ambush. ;)
If you knocked it down during daytime, there may have been no wasps in it. At that size, the only residents would be the Queen and perhaps a couple of workers.
Any wasps about now will not live till next year and so will not return, though by chance another Queen (which would be born later in year) could decide to build there next year, but would only be coincidence.
