Just wondered what approach folks use in this kind of situation. You're first to act on a flop that gives you the flush draw. Would most people bet out? Different strategy depending on pot, how deep into tourney etc.?

I started writing a reply but I think Fuzz has summarised it nicely.

Pot size, number of players, stack sizes, stage of the game, table image...

All other things being equal... (early stages, average stack, standard unraised pot) I'd check call or check fold depending on the action.

if its a nut flush you are chasing lets say you have A10h
    and the flop is 2H, 8H, 10s
    then yeah, I'd bet ;)

Last night I had a K high flush draw and bet half pot. One caller. Nothing on turn to help me. I check he bets the pot I fold. I had an average stack with blinds at 30-60 I think. Just got me thinking about how I might have gotten away cheaper with a check on the flop.

As Brian said, I think check call or check fold would have been my preferred move in a 'typical' situation (is there ever such a thing!). You don't have anything other than a monster draw, I would want to see the next card as cheaply as possible *and* hope that as many opponents as possible stick around, so that they can pay me off should the flush hit. If you bet, you're only called by hands that currently beat you and obviously are up against it on the turn or river if you've missed completely and the opponents comes out fighting.

Bet out if you think you can take it down there ie. few people see a non action flop. Otherwise check/fold.

I don't tink I'll see the turn even getting 4:1 if someone bets behind my check.

If there is any way in which you can win the hand without a showdown then take it, in your case the lead on the flop is good. Then the turn comes - ok based on your knowledge of the player and the board texture what do you think he has, and more importantlly can he lay top pair down? Id often lead again or chk raise him. He doesnt have to fold that much to make it profitable. Know when to give up though! The river is the worst place to bluff.

tbh I will often take another shot on the turn because they will often also have a draw or TPWK (weak kicker) but I think last nights tourney was so crazy it was making me too cautious.

    What was the flop?
In what possie was the caller of your flop bet?.

Best guess from memory - Qxx (2 diamonds, I had Kd7d in SB I think) - he was in BB.

musician: you need to give much more info - like stack sizes, tourney status, blind size, players, your image, etc etc.

I would have made a pot sized bet on the flop and also the turn and checked the river in this hand.

Generally on any aceless and kingless flop i think its best if your betting a flush draw stronger than half pot. On a king and/or ace flop imo its better to check/call or check/fold.

Fuzz this isn't a HH. I was just pondering this kind of situation so it's a general question. Sue me. If there is alot of interest I'll go find the HH in question and post it.
