I'm betting it was engine size. I once saw a 1600cc corolla with a similar plate.

    That or Complete Cnut.....

CC should not be on any plate according to the regulations below.

Strangely enough I can find no provision in the Act that even allows CD to appear.

I think it means "Consular Corps" as opposed to "Diplomatic Corps", but I don't know what the distinction is.

It's just lower level embassy staff that have those.

Consuls can also have them. They don't confer the immunity that the CD plates do though.

I wasn't aware that even CD plates offered any immunity or priviledge.

I recall reading an article last year about CD plates just being a preference for diplomats and they carried no benefit.

They carry the benefit of being able to drive in buslanes, or park wherever you like without being clamped. Whether or not this is down to ignorance of those enforcing traffic laws, who knows..?

I always understood CD plates to confer the same privileges as the actually embassy building enjoys i.e. it is the sovereign territory of the represented country and cannot be interfered with in any way by agents of the host state. Same goes for a diplomatic bag etc.

    Could be wrong though....

CC is also of the Diplomatic Corps but for the diplomats in a Consulate and not the main Embassy. yea CD offers immunity but not from being clamped n stuff! use of Bus lane is for emergency use only but as reaching the embassy late due to traffic reasons is an emergency case so yea can say tht the Bus lane is used at all times! :)

I don't think so. I have a friend who is staff in an embassy in Dublin and he has a private car, he can't get anything on his plate. He is also reasonably senior.

The designation will be against the vehicle itself as far as I know not a person.

There is one that always parks in a really irritating place near the French school. Right on a corner beside a solid white line.

I think you're right there. Perhaps for diplomatic staff of a country that doesn't have a full embassy here in Ireland, just a consulate

Some countries have both an embassy/ambassador and honorary consuls.
    (My neighbour is one)
It's then possible that the ambasssador would have a 'CD' plate car, and the consul would have a 'CC' car.

Diplomatic vehicles have the same status as embassies, when there is diplomatic staff in them. If it's just parked up they can be clamped or more usually towed around the corner.

The Belgian Ambassador(?) got laughed at when he sent a memo to all the other Dublin embassies complaining he was moved for being an obstruction.

A lot of countries won't allow their staff act the eejit anymore when it comes to parking, etc. as it creates a bad image.

In most countries licence plates are officially issued by the relevant govt department to embassy staff and ambassadors, and usually include the letters 'CD' or 'CC'.

In the UK, embassy staff vehicles recieve special plates (with security seals embedded in them) with three numbers, a letter and three numbers, eg 115 D 103 (Republic of Benin).
Most ambassadors have personalised plates, e.g 1 PY (Ambasador of Paraguay).

In Ireland plates can be made up and the letters CD added (presumably with an official letter from the embassy or dept of foreign affairs?)

Some clown in a 142C merc decided he didn't need to wait like everyone else today in the line of traffic and cut in in front of me with this cc on the number plate! What does this cc mean any way?
