False advertising by Motomax

I just bought a Kawasaki D-Tracker from Motomax. Their website says that it has 10k on the clock, but after my mate picking it up for me (I didn't test drive it as it's my first 'real' bike) he's discovered that there's over 20k on the clock. He said it's fine anyway, and drives well, but should I be concerned about this? I'll be getting my hands on it for the first time today.

It's probably something I should've noticed at the start, but I basically lliked the look of it and asked my mate to check it out, which is where I missed it.

Yes you should. Make sure the Service history shows that its had all the proper services for its milege. Also make sure the tires are in a good condition. As well as the chain and sprocket.

... you should pull them up on this. Irrespective of whether the bike is o.k. or not, doubling the mileage has an effect on price. More miles = less money.

And don't be shy about telling that, either - there's no shortage of s/hand bikes out there.......

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Do a quick check first - if the figures are as you said above ignore this but sometimes people round up and down!) If there's 18 thou on the clock and the clock is in kilometres, and the website might have said something like 12k miles - this would be a rough conversion.

If not, and its miles/miles then pull them up on it. The product is not as described. (I think the good ol' Sales of Goods and Supply of Services Act 1980, or as amended says goods must be "as described".)
Goes to show you can't believe everything they say on the web ;)
Let us know how you get on....

    Took it for a spin tonight - it's actually over 20k. Here's a link to the website including the description of the bike;

    http://www.motomax.ie/Kawasaki_u.htm

3rd bike down. Regardless of the mileage, scared the ****e out of myself on it this evening! First time driving with gears and I'm very nervous, though I'm getting the hang of it quickly enough.

Think I'll see where I'd possibly stand with them. I definitely want the bike, but I feel a bit ripped off, especially with over double the advertisied mileage.

I was going to buy the ZZR in the link, it definitly has more than 41k on it, i think close to 49.

I find Motomax very expensive for the bikes.

A guy I know is a KTM fan, he's had two engines (fully dealer serviced) blow up within 20,000 miles due to a dodgy oil pump design. They're coming from the off-road sector where engines are not used continuously at high power, like on the road. I wouldn't buy a KTM for on-road use.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.
