We have "john" and "jenny" they are a married couple.
    jenny dies.
John had a child with jenny.
john now finds a new girlfriend. they have a child. john now dies.

Succession Act 1965 http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/ZZA27Y1965.html, provides if no will made, and deceased not married, estate devolves to child. If will made, as per will provides, except child has a right to apply to high court under s. 117, that the parent has failed in their moral duty to provide for them.

This is a lot easier because john doesnt marry the new girlfriend, if he did, then new wife would get all of estate if dies without a will, or even with a will, a legal right to a third of the state (since there are kids, half of estate if no kids).
