    Hi Guys,

Im preparing to get a beardie and have obviously been doing as much research as humanly possible. However, I still have questions regarding their feeding.

Ive already soured crickets for it but Im not as confident when it comes to the veg. Ive been reading mainly American which list a lot of stuff ive never seen here.

Does anybody know where to get this stuff or do you use alternatives.

If somebody could advise me thatd be great.

    Cheers

I goto Tesco and get Papaya, Squash and they have a salad mix, it is 2 bags joined with Tatsoi, Endive, Escarole and something else. Dude loves it and eats all readily although it did take a few weeks. I also bet butterworms from the UK as they are very high in calcium

We grate up parsnips & courgettes, then use salad leaves make sure bags of mixed salad have NO ICEBURG lettuce as this can be poisionous to lots of pets. Rocket leaves are good, pok choi, chinese cabbage, sugar snap peas, sweet pepers, fruits, you can also get packs of shoots in tesco these are full of nutrients. Twice a week they have calcium & vitamins sprinked onto the mix - occassionally add a few mealworms to the salad to make it extra yummy. Sweet potatos can be grated up & carrots etc.

Never tried Sweet potatos with mine, must try it, the rest he does get as weekly treats except the mealworms as he is a bit young and they can impact and the reason I like butter worms is that they don't have this problem are are 5 times higher in calcium than silkworms which I get posted in from tiem to time as well

The Cheapest and IMO best are in your back garden "Dandilion" leafs which have the correct calcium to phosphorus ratio

Or what i do as my beardie,s dont seem to like much veg is feed them only locusts (as Gf cant stand noise of crickets) and because locusts eat all veg the beardies need, they get it second hand and its generally viewed that locusts are a better diet than crickets. They are more expensive but ordering them in bulk from england works out cheaper and also they are not as smelly, noisy or as hard to keep but do require a higher temperture container to keep them in

They are a great pet good luck.....

and i would suggest getting a second as they are social and my two seem to have great fun together

I use Locusts as the live feed and never have a problem with them. Dandilions are the best whenb you can get them as long as they don't have any chemicals sprayed on them.

BDs are great pets but I would not recommend 2 together, unless both are females, males are very territorial and well if you mix a male/female well you know what will happen :)

My beardies basically eat what the iguana gets & yes when they are available they have dandylions & in the summer we grow nasturtums (sp) that they can eat they love the leaves & flowers - & I have to agree we dont eat as well as the pets do! Costs on average €70 a week to feed the iguanas (2) beardies (3) the skink (1) & my skunks (2) although these have little salad but lots of veggies etc. My guys have a mix of crickets & locusts we feed the crickets they have veggies & fruit & some tropical fish flakes & some calcium is added to the crickets & mealworms feed.

Man I would love to see your setup. I want to get more reptiles but the wife is against it :( I have added a gecko to the pets in the house but am thinking about a couple of females for him :)

I used to have an iguana and gave him dandeloins and he seemed to love them.

Got too big for me tho.

Cheers for all the advice, it will certainly help.

    Can't wait to get him/her.

I'll let yo all know how I get on.
