Getting serious with cash games

Hey cash game players! With my upcoming and long-awaited period of extended unemployment fast approaching, I am going to devote some time to giving the cash games a bit of a go on various internet poker rooms. I have a list of starting requirements in my head for this, can you think of any more / correct me if I'm wrong?

    - Rake back deal
    - Poker Tracker software (looks confusing to a dummy such as I)
    - Poker HUD software (ditto)
    - Neteller account (they're still jerking me around, not in the good way)

I'm leaving 'ability to play' off the list, as I've done without it for so long I don't want it ruining my mojo.

Is it against board rules to enquire as to the best poker rooms for the following requirements: multi-tabling 3 tables at a time, want the ability to resize tables to fit them all on the screen without cascading (a la Party Poker's mini-tables option) and of course soft games (don't really care about good banter or any of that stuff online, that's what live play is for)?

    Thanks to those who respond.

I can't answer all of your questions but if you're going to take this seriously invest in a good big monitor that will fit 4 tables. That said, I have been playing 5 tables on a laptop that barely fits one, but at least I know what I'm doing wrong.

I'm not sure how to reply here without breaking the rules but if you want information about RB deals, what to look for in an Affiliate etc. etc. send me a PM and I'd be glad to point you in the right direction.

Obviously, the first place to start would be www.rakerebatereview.com.

As for the rest, well PT is easy to use once you get used to it. They have a great tutorial on www.bet-the-pot.com/poker-tracker-part-one-page31.html.

PAHUD is also easy enough to use and they have a good tutorial on their own website.

    Neteller, absolute essential.

Bonus whoring is your friend. Keep an eye one the bonus forum on 2+2 and check bonuswhores.com and pokerlistings.com
If you play mostly hold'em cash then you can avail of loads of big bonuses and just pla and forget about them. They're especially handy if a particular room can't give RB.

I'm also a bit of a bonus whore, use them and lose them. But I'd suggest you only do these if the site doesn't allow RB, because once you've been tracked to an affiliate (i.e. the site that gives you the bonus) you can never open a RB account with that site. So the likes of UB, Full Tilt, PokerRoom, Betfair, etc. etc. that you might go back to play on, once you use up your initial sign up bonus it's gone.

Your initial sign-up on any site is actually quite valuable, and I'd seriously suggest you use it wisely.

EDIT: P.S. As laf says 2+2 have a good whore forum, they also have a great RB/Affiliate forum that I'd recommend too. An ocean of info there to aid in your decisions..

Must have a read of that PT guide Ste. Thanks for that. I have to say I have always found PT to be a terribly designed and totally confusing interface. Many many times I have thought of doing a rival version but I'd be up against it and have no time at all. It's just I can't help thinking it could be so much clearer and easier to use.

You can't, well you might be able to but it's shady. You'll get your account locked and your money confiscated if you do manage it.

How much of a bankroll do you have to do this?

And the biggest thing you need to learn is how to spot sharks and fish. You're trying to make a living and not stroke your ego or improve your game. Never just jump into a table. Watch it for at least fifteen minutes. When you start to correctly call out how each will play their hands, you will know if there are any sharks at the table. But don't be afraid of sharks. Just be avoid the ones that are better than you. ;)

    Good luck!

I tried something like this from January to March too (all poker not just cash games). I got a bit lazy in that I wasn't playing enough online. I probably played a bit too much live during that time.

As has been said there are definitely one "reload bonus" which amounts to about 80% rakeback available every month. Party's bonuses are also good value so I wouldn't be closing your account if I was you! I find the 100NL shorthand tables to be a goldmine on Party. I should be playing the 200 tables but I can't imagine my profits could be any more there!

Once you have the bonuses done every month then play on a rakeback site (usless you know you can make steady cash elsewhere). This can help if you go through a downswing in that you are paying less to play so your losses should theorethically be smaller.
