Aidan and the Irish heavyweight (Chris) both made it to the Semi finals but were knocked out in that round. It was a great show all in all, the heavyweight tournament was very exciting and the final between Dutch fighter Harry Duivan and Belgiums Benjamin Petit was very good, as both guys had an extremely high standard. Benjamin took a very close decision to become the king of the Heavyweights!

    Why Paddy, you 88kg?:D

Sounds like a good show alright. Whatever happened that Citywest promotion? Supposed to be K1, happened about a year or two ago?

Marek Johult (Estonia) and Tony Xerra (France) both pulled out due to injury
A chap from Northern Ireland ( Sorry can't think of his name at the moment) filled in at short Notice
This left 7 fighters, Ben Petit recieved a bouy to the semi finals

    First Round
Harry Duivan (Holland) Beat NI Fighter. Very Close fight, the Irish Fighter fought Bravely and scored with good solid Punches but the Dutch Fighter had more experience in the low kicks n Knees department and he kept on racking up the points

Mohamed Nassar (England) Beat Aiden Brookes (Ireland), Close fight Mohamed went on to win by 2 point margin

Chris Dowling (Galway) Beat Dylan Scally (Mullingar) Dylan Scally was disqualified. This rapidly became a very Bad tempered affair.Chris Dowling scored with a knee high on the chest early on and visibly hurt Dylan Scally. This seemed to enrage Scally who came forward looking to end things early. He recieved warnings from the ref and was finally disqualified for trying to push his opponent through the ropes

    Semi Finals:
Harry Duivan (Holland) Beat Chris Dowling (Galway) The Galway fighter fought gamely until the bell, again Duivan made good use of his low kicks and got the decision 2:1

Ben Petit (Belguim) Beat Mohamed Nasser(England) Petit showed his class againt a much bigger opponent, he dispalyed good blocking skills and powerful low kicks with fast accurate punching. Petit was much leaner at 93kgs than the other fighters and moved very well around the ring slamming in low kicks to his opponents Thighs and scoring with knees when Mohamed managed to get in close.

Didn't See the final as I had to Drive back to Dublin after semis but I believe Petit went on to win

The northern Fighter was Colin Robinson from IMMA, most of the MMA crowd would know Colin as he is very active on the MMA scene and an all around nice guy.
He took the fight on 3 days notice and as he trains MMA and not straight stand up he aquitted himself very well I thought.

The final was a close fought affair both guys were very skillful, personally I thought the dutch fighter took it, but I couldn't fault the judges going the other way as it was extremely close.

It seemed to me like he figured he wasn't goign to win and just went a bit mad instead of trying to fight his way back into it. Anyone else get that impression?

    mark

thanks. the ropes were not tight enough, and i nearly went through them myself in the first round. 10oz gloves are too small for heavyweights and i could bearly get my hands into them.dowling kept clinching which was against the rules which is why he nearly went through the ropes with a little help.;) plus the guy is the current irish superheavyweight champion. i will relieve him of that title by christmas. i thought he might have been a classier fighter more like petit. that was a very good knee though caught me in the ribs not the chest, would'nt have hurt if it was in the chest.no regrets from me though i enjoyed it. great day. P.S miss you too paddy.
