    Hi All,

I've a Edelbrock (weber) carb that I think I need to take off and clean. Car is running terrible, lots of hesitation and then suddenly she'll rev up when at idle (fully open is fine) the right mix screw works as normal, the left does nothing (fully in, completly out no change at all). We took the cover off thecarb at the show, but there was nothing that we could see.

Can ye give me general advice on taking off a carb and cleaning it out, thanks guys

The only thing I can tell you from experience is that 90% of so called "carb problems" are actually caused by ignition system faults. Practically every time someone tells me they have "dirty fuel" I end up replacing the condenser !

Do you have points ignition system and is there a condenser ?

Did you see any dirt when you did take the cover off ? Is there a fuel filter ? Is it dirty ?

I would suggest that you find a picture on-line of how it comes off the manifold and take it away from the car altogether before opening it. Things have a nasty habit of dropping down into the manifold and then your stuffed !

When you do open it, have plenty of space and rags and have some clean paper spread out. Sometimes these things have balls and springs and the like that once they fly you are righlty "Shang Hai'ed "

Funny you should mention electical, on the way home I had to replace the coil as it started to spue its oil and heat up rathar alarmingly, but the with the replacement coil there was very little difference in the running of the car :(

I'll start with the carb, the left mixture screw is dead, electical or no electical problems. There goes my bank holiday weekend :(

I would check your earth straps ! Check and clean as many as you can find, thats one main reason for boiling a coil !

A condenser is cheap as chips so you may as well get one from a local factor too, assuming your car has one ?
