    Hi

For the last couple of years I have been using Oceanfree as my ISP over a
56K modem running XP with all the correct XP updates,anti-virus, anti-spyware etc etc

In the last few weeks I have been experiencing issues when logging on at peak time and experience intermittent issues loading any page. The symptons are
1 web page loads correctly but takes ages to load or fails to load at all
2 run ping -t for a web page from the command prompt and the TTL >3000 or packet after packet is dropped
3 go on late at night and the web page works fine (> 10pm)

I am guessing its a peak usage thing but would be interested to hear other comments or suggestions

    cheers

    grasscutter

sounds like you need to switch isp to me. I presume if you're using dial-up you can't get broadband in your area. I use eircom's free connection when I've no BB available to me. I can send you the settings if you like.

Oceanfree were bought out by IOL (now BT) years ago. Since then the Oceanfree network has been allowed to go to ****.

Wow, Oceanfree dial-up still works somewhere? It stopped working in Limerick like 4 years ago...

go to: control panel> network connections> set up a new connection

    Phone number: 1892 150 150
    Username: leave this blank
    Password: leave this blank also

    bobs your uncle, dialup....

    thanks for the info

I managed to find the settings and have been using eircom for the last 2 days. Since i started using Eircom I have had no further problems with downloading pages. I think its cheaper as well since its a 1892 number instead of 1890 for Oceanfree.

No probs. The 1892 number should defo cheapen it all up. It comes up on your bill as internet calls as well, which is handy.
