I had my tank filled at the end of February with 500 litres of oil which is now gone??? I bought the house in October and the oil lasted until the end of February and would have been on much more. I wasnt in the house when the company filled the tank and Im worried that Ive just been buggered.

Has anyone any experience in this? Has anyone any suggestions?

    Thanks

Yip, same thing cept it was 1000L in 3 months. (that still hurts) Pipe from tank to burner had a leak. These pipes are fragile, they need to be buried in a casing really. Get a plumber to call out and do a pressure drop test on the pipe. In a few seconds he can tell you if the pipe is ok or not.
You may have some digging ahead of yourself.

500litres for 3 months is very good, especially the last 3 months which were very cold.

I have probably used 1000litres in the last 4 months.

I filled up last Nov and still have a pretty full tank. Same last year! A year for 500 litres.
I know it may sound like I am a complete stingy wagon with the heating, but this year I had it on a lot more than last year. I do have a backboiler on the fire place - but I only bought 1 bag of coal and a few logs this year.

Maybe the leak from your is into mine!!

Just goes to show how consumption of burners differ. I have 6 radiators in the house

have you considered the oil as been siphoned from your tank while you were away from home? it happens.

Is the house / boiler new ? If not when was it last serviced ? Is it using Gas oil or kerosene ? Your tank probably holds about 1200 - 1300 litres. How much did you get in October ? (Do you know that 1 fill of 1000 litres costs less that 2 deliveries of 500.)
I have known people to go through 1000 litres in a month to 6 weeks, in cold weather, when they have a new baby, someone sick, etc.
A modern oil boiler is pretty economical, but its consumption depends on the temperature it is set to, the size of the house, the hours on, the number of rads on, etc.
    In a mid 70s 3 bed semi, I get about 10 months from a 1000 litre fill.
Leaks usually show up unless the pipe is really buried and I have never actually heard of oil having been stolen from a tank.
    Jim.
