I am a blue belt in ITF Tae Kwon Do and I am looking for an ITF school in Cork.

Anyone able to point me in the right direction or if not recomend another brand of Tae Kwon Do available in the City ...

I am looking for somewhere where there is and adults class. The last place I trained I was tripping over 7 year olds cause everyone trained together.

    Thanks!

There are a number of ITF clubs in Cork City or nearby to the city.

My instructor Mr O'Brien from redkingtkd trains classes in Carrigaline, details available here www.redkingtkd.com

Then we are affiliated to Whitedragon Martial art who trains classes in a number of areas around county cork, to include Conna and Tallow. He's site can be found at www.whitedragononline.com

Also there is a good ITF club In bandon (though thats a bit far from the city for ya I'd guess) and details of there clubs can be found on www.bandontkd.com

Finally pma-ire trains TKD in Cork city, though its not ITF style it is still a form of Taekwondo, best you contact Paul himself for more details. He pops in here now and then.

    Hi Twigs!

    Where do you live??

There are 3 ITF if not more branches of ITF affiliated groups in Cork! :D

I may be able to give you a location close to where you live??

My own club is in the Glen Resource Centre. We train Monday and Wednesday kids (JungShin Tigers) at 5.30pm-6.30pm and I will be starting an adult class in the next few weeks!!

We do TKD based on the older style of Chung Do Kwan and are part of Ao Denokou Jitsu under Prof Rick Clark. (All sites linked in my sig!!)

So just let me know where you are

    Hey,

I am out the Douglas direction and I am ideally looking for a club/school where that has a well established adult class. I have found before with other classes that were struggling for numbers or just setting up that you are almost required to keep the thing going ...

Sometimes you turnup to a class of as little as 3 or 4 people of various grades and ages, motivation drops and you endup disimproving.

I want to be careful this time to find somewhere that you just pay your money and in return get good training and opportunities i.e. tournaments etc.

That seems to be the sad reality with most clubs. I see it in my own club. When I started there were about 7 or 8 adults in the senior, now we are down to just 2 of us who train regualrly with others coming and going. Its really down to adults having other more inportant commitments such as work and family.

If you want my opinion, it shouldn't be about the age groups in the club, it should be about you and your instructor. I found it hard to stay focuced/motivated inmy club some time back, went to my instructor about it, and we came up with a few solutions. what I'm saying is the whole instructor student relation is key to your motovation and commitment to stick at the Art.

My club is based in Passage West, near enough to Douglas. It's a well-established club (20 yrs) with Mr. Paul Delea 5th Degree instructing. We've a vibrant adult class (8-9pm every Monday and Thursday). PM me if you'd like further details. Anyone is welcome to come down and have a look before joining. Fees are reasonable, approx €35 per month I think. Average attendance is in the region of 15+ bodies.

We're affiliated with the INTA and then the ITF, though which branch I don't know. We'll be training next Thursday again (bank holiday Monday), so feel free to contact me before then for more info.

Thanks again gor the replies, I'll try track down the Mahon Club as my first port of a call..

pma-ire, I'd rather not name and shame my own club. The instructor is a sound guy, his heart is in the right place. He just seems to have a mental block about when it comes to training adults.. prefering to mix the class with kids with most of the adults pretty much instructing the kids and therefore slowing the pace and making the class very disjointed.

I'm doing GST(Great Southern Tae Kwon Do) but it's in west cork. Theres another club in Little Island though, that would be the closest I can think of:D
