string bet called after calling raise

    Playing in Macau Friday night

Blinds are at 4000 -8000 I call raise and pull over the line in stacks of 4000 the amount of chips i want to raise (this has been a standard 2.5 times the blinds ) because of the nature of the chips and blinds this takes 6 movements
After doing this for most of the night a player calls string bet and the TD rules in his favour saying that despite saying raise i can only cross the betting line once with chips.
when i explained that i said raise and that this was clearly heard (backed up by dealer )he insisted that EPT rules state that more than 1 movment with chips unless the amount is called out before i start movment is a string bet
So downgraded my raise to a min raise

    anyone agree ?

Your only supposed to be bet in 1 forward motion, not multiples times like you said. What you should always do is to say raise and the specific amount you want to raise and then your covered and can do it in as many movements as you like

I agree with Cooker in general. The string bet rule is quite often used against the spirit of the rule though. However, I always make sure to say an amount if I am putting a large number of chips out.

Must have had a lot of small denomination chips if it took you six goes.....

just say all-in, makes it much easier

I dont want to be getting all in with 67os i want to steal the not insubstantial blinds
i think at this stage 2.5 is fine

I guess i was mistaken then i was sure that once i had spoken raise i could ar$e about all i wanted until i was happy

Even within clubs this rule can be inconsistent and some dealers will allow you as many movements as you want once you say raise (this is wrong though imho) and other will only allow one.

I think your main problem is stacking chips in stacks 8 high. Be adventurous. Go for at least 20.......

No say 'I'll put you all in'.

That's what all the good players say!

    the ruling was correct
say the amount you want to raise and stack you chips in 20s!
it's easier to count for you and for the dealer and you'd be able to do most of your betting/raising in one motion
