Who is going to the Zappa plays Zappa gig next week in Vicar Street?

I'll be there anyway. I was in Prague last week and went to the gig there... it really was outstanding stuff... absoulutely brilliant.

Steve Vai on guitar and Terry Bozzio on drums.... wow.... so f*cking great!

They played a huge hockey stadium in Prague, so it should be a very different gig in Dublin... Can't wait to see it again.

They dıdn,t do enough of the funny stuff, and the best thıng about Zappa for me ıs hıs sense of humour.... and there were only one or two funny ones ın there. They dıd Punkys Whıps whıch was great for ınstance.... I promıse not to come ın your mouth... hahah...

But there was far too much of bıtchın guıtar and drum solos whıch get a lıttle bıt borıng after a whıle.

Anyway, I wıll be chantıng for Jewısh Prıncess and Bobby Brown next week.

I'm a massive Zappa fan but alot of his "funny" stuff is grating to say the least. But as a musician he was a bona fide genius.

I'd like to see some of his jazzy music played. Hots Rats and Weasels Ripped My Flesh stuff.

Either way, looking forward to a great gig!

They did Black Page in Prague, which is a great piece... amazing drum playing on it.

Went to the Royal Albert Hall Show last night. Absolutely fantastic. Played for just over two hours. One of the highlights of the show was "Peaches in R..." blasted out on the venues gigantic pipe organ. It was always going to be a special show given the history between Frank and it. Dweezil touched on this early on and promised a couple of surprises, which included a Short rendition of "louie louie" on the aforementioned organ, aping the mothers previos appearance some thirty years before. Steve Vai took the stage after the interval and blew the audience away with a savage solo on Zombie Woof. Napolean Murphy Brock sang and danced his heart out all night, the man has serious energy. Cant wait for Vicar St. tomorrow night

It cost €60... I'll let it go for €40.

    Wow... WOW! That was amazing...

Great show... I was right up the front... just 5 feet away from Dweezil... I took lots of photos.. I'll post them later...

Too bad Terry Bozzio wasn't there... but seeing Steve Vai so up close was simply wonderful... this was definitely the best gig I've ever been too... and I think they were very impressed be the response they got in Dublin and I'm sure they'll be back.

As I said... I had pretty damn good seats... ha... watching them play up close like that was brilliant.

I was towards the vack of the venue, but there is truly not a bad seat in the house at Vicar St.

Dweezil continues to amaze me as he grows as a performer. I have seen him several times in the States over the years and had the very good fortune to meet him and have a few pics taken with him on St Paddy's Day in 1994 shortly after Frank had died.

Last night's show was pure brilliance. Dweezil completed exceeded my expectations for the night and all of the musicians put the music first. A stellar gig completely absent of ego. The entire show was about one thing and that was Frank's compositions.

    Truly a Tour de Frank

Hey MonkeyFudge - I was the guy sitting beside you! Amazing gig...

Ha Monkeyfudge, I could see you from the balcony

I was at the gig on Sunday and thought it was astounding - definitely the best gig I've been at in many years. I was in the balcony, front row right above Steve Vai. Normally I take 100s of pics at gigs but my camera batteries ran out! really missed some great shots and footage but one the other hand without the camera I got to enjoy the show without distraction. It was mega to see the band shake hands with so many of the audience too.

then you were sitting on the same row as me^^^...it was a good gig, even coming from someone who doesnt like Zappa's music. The Royal Albert Hall gig impressed me more though, just because of the pipe organ.

Cool, I was in seat A7. Beside me was an older couple and the woman appeared to be asleep throughout. Was the guy who got Steve Vai's plec in your party? I was wondering if he managed to catch it or did it go on the floor?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,129 ✭✭✭Nightwish

I was in A12. Neither me or my boyfriend got the plec. I thought someone in row B got it.

So you were at the end of the row then, with two empty seats between you and us? I can remember you and the boyf standing up to let me and my old man through. If only I'd known I'd have said hi to you!
