    Hey,

    My english skills are diabolical.

"The author chose to disallow comments on this post."

(someone makes a post and others can comment on it. in the case above, comments are not allowed because the author doesn't want comments.)

Is there a better way to word that sentence?

    Thanks :)

The auther does not desire comments on this post.
The auther has disabled comments for this post.
Comments are not permitted for this post as the author does not want them.

Define "better" in this instance? ;)

i'm sure there are some syntax errors here but I don't know the laws of grammar and can't explain why i think its wrong, but it is a really clunky sentence...actually looks like something translated directly from another language into English, i.e. its far too literal.

    Perhaps:
The author chose 'not to allow' would be better.

For my money, disallow is a negative in that it prevents something from happening, but it's preceeded preceeded by 'chose' which I would describe as a positive and could reasonably be regarded as a forward action.

    Hope this helps

"The author has refused to allow comments on this post"

    Sounds better to me :)

"The author chose not to allow comments on his post"

"The author did not wish to receive any comments regarding his original post"

    "The rain in Spain...."

Comments on this post have been disabled by the author.

Strictly it should be "Commenting on this post..." or "The ability to comment on this post..." but I think people will get what you mean.
