    Imagine we could have had a smaller version in Spencer Dock, but alas no CIE property cut a deal without really telling Irish Rail

    Apparently the guy who designed it wanted to continue the glass roof over the whole thing, and do something different with the floors, but it was abandoned due to the world cup.

    Hes going to fight to have it done though :)

    Edit: Although I wouldnt expect anything that grand here, it is depressing just how much better it is than the depressing excuses for train stations we have here :(

    now we got the new howth junction station which looks like something that would have built in germany.... in the 70s???

    two levels, is subway and over ground or two levels of heavy train platforms??

    Yeah, it really does kick tail.

    One of the best things (and there are many) about Berlin's public transport is how well integrated it is. Tickets are bought on an intrazone or zone-to-zone basis, good on virtually all forms of public transport.

    And they've had these integrated structures since ... long ago. And they do all this with just plain paper card tickets, not even a mag stripe.

    Meanwhile Dublin's answer to so-called "Integrated" ticketing, is to fool around with smart cards as a new payment system. A crappy, stale, unambitious plan, even that is years behind schedule and overbudget ... sound familiar? :mad:

    Not too familiar with Berlin's system, though their map looks pretty comprehensive. I am fairly familiar with the public transport system in Frankfurt, and they have the plain paper tickets as well. They have a very good system for a city of about 600,000 - up to about 1.3 million during weekdays.

    One really good thing about Frankfurt is that it is a very bike friendly city. You can take your bike on the S- or U-Bahn or the tram outside of the really peak hours. Possibly the bus as well - never tried that.

    nothing compared to the density pre 2nd world war.

    That stabbing incident was a bit of a scare story on wikipedia.
