Is there a place where online poker sites post their jobs?

I am looking to become a marketer for an online poker site. I'd like a change (currently I'm the head marketer for an IT consulting firm), like to get in on this emerging industry, and I have marketing ideas for online poker sites that I've yet to see any implement. However, I have yet to find an online job site that lists jobs with online poker sites. And the vast majority of online poker sites don't even have an employment page. What I hoping is that someone here might know of such a job site and/or a forum that caters to the online gambling industry.

Unfortunately, I have been told that jobs with online poker sites tend to go to friends and family. This being a mark of an emerging industry and thus is kind of good as far as I'm concerned since I want to get involved in an emerging industry. The downside of this is that it makes it that much harder to get a foot in the door.

What I have done is send my resume unsolicited to a number of online poker sites and asking if they have a marketing job opening. The result of this effort has been one poker site being interested. Last week, I had the first telelphone interview with them and am waiting for a conference calls with both partners. However, there is no guarantee I'll land the job so I would want to continue looking and contacting to generate more job leads.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Did you try the PP website?

Remember, there's only 2 big companies in Ireland, PP and Boyles, most of the marketing comes from the UK and I think PP are the only one with a decent budget for marketing.

If by "PP" you mean Party Poker, yes, I did. No reply back yet.

Oh, I could force myself ... with, of course, great effort ... to live in Jamaica or Antigua. It would to be a huge sacrifice, but I would endure the beautiful beaches, sailing, and so forth to be part of this emerging industry. ;)

If your going to work in marketing in the poker industry, your going to need to learn the slang, PP is Paddy Power, why would you apply for a job in Party Poker, they target the UK and USA market, they've no need for employees in Ireland. Seems like a waste of time to me.

Anyway, lets us know how you get on........

I know PP are always looking for staff, more more in the support side than marketing.

Well PP is also Party Poker and PPP is Paddy Power Poker, no? And I'm sure PP would be delighted to have new customers in Ireland, although I don't know if they do much marketing here.

The online casino that I have already done a phone interview with is located in Jamaica.

I know it isn't an ideal country but I'm willing to go where there's a job offer. And I have no desire to go slumminng in Trench Town at night alone.

Thanks for warning me though. If you have advice on how to make the best of it in Jamaica, I would appreciate that.

Here in the States, when you say PP and mean online poker, you mean Party Poker. If you say PPP, you mean Paddy Power Poker. And I did fire off my resume to PPP. No reply back yet.

And I'll keep this thread posted. When I land the desired job, I'll let you know.

you live in the states? I would imagine its even harder to get a job there for a poker company.

    Good Luck

Yes, it means I absolutely have to relocate out of the country to wherever the poker company's headquarters is located. However, I'm willing to do so. I think online poker is still an emerging industry and I have many marketing ideas for it that I've yet to hear any online poker site implementing. I also believe it is still evolving and I have a few ideas on how it will evolve and will hopefully get hired by a receptive company that will allow me to test those concepts.
    Good Luck

Thanks! I will need it. :)

One innovatve marketing idea I had that maybe you could apply if you got the PPP job is a "shop" where frequent players can redeem the action points they get based on the amount of rake they pay. I'm sure you can think of things people would like to buy.

Sort of like what they used to do in video game arcades? You get so many tickets from playing the games and then can turn them in for candy, toys, and what's in the "mystery box". *laugh*

But it isn't a bad idea. The items would have to be more expensive to make it worth everyone's while to ship them to players. What would you suggest to be sold? Dodge Viper? ;)

Thanks for the tip. I'll fire off my resume to them. I'm not a perfect match for what they're seeking but there's no harm in giving it a try.

However, their application form is in error. When you click on "Apply", all the questions with pull-down menus have nothing in them and you cannot even insert the answer in them. Oh well. I'll complete what I can and we'll see what happens.

An update: Now this is odd. When I pressed "Submit", it rejected my application. I half expected that with the blank fields as mentioned earlier. What is odd is that now all the pull-down options are available. Odd. Oh well. I can now select them and re-submit.

Something I didn't expect happened. I've had a well-known poker professional express interest in teaming up to do a poker site. Without revealing his name, he was a businessman before becoming a poker pro so that is encouraging. He asked for my resume. I fired it off to him. He liked what he saw and explained himself more, including his take on the online poker industry. I did likewise. Saying he liked what I sent, next up will be a telephone chat. Then I'll learn how much he's investing into the venture, time schedule, and so forth.

Out of curiousity, what got you posting onto boards if you are based in the states? Did you just google poker forums (or fora I guess)?

Good luck with this by the way, if/when you can reveal any more keep us posted. Where would you be based in this hypothetical situation?

I'll start the guessing. Amir Vahedi?

Because I want to get into this industry and am willing to relocate anywhere in the world. Since 50% of online poker revenue is generated from the States, bringing onboard an American marketer would be a logical move by a poker site. Or at least that's what I'm hoping.

My normal haunt for poker discussions is the newsgroup rec.gaming.poker where I posted this question to as well. As for this site, I used BoardTracker to see where such discussions were taking place elsewhere on the net.
Good luck with this by the way...

    Thanks. I'll need it.

Will do. Besides the poker pro contacting me (see my last post before this one), the only other thing that has happened over the weekend is another poker site asked me to send them my resume. No word back from them yet. But since it is now Monday, perhaps today or tomorrow I'll hear from them.

The one that I had the telephone interview with two Thursdays ago is based in Jamaica. The poker site that asked from my resume over last weekend is based in Curaçao, Dutch Antilles. I have no idea yet where the poker pro would set up his operations. I'll go wherever the job is. :)

The best place I know of for recruitment ads in Europe for the online gaming industry is eGaming Review which is an English based industry magazine, go to their website and check out their recruitment section on the right hand side, the best of luck to you in your search.

Doubly so since they only want someone that is already in Manchester. Here's a link to the posting:

Had a weird call this morning. Very early morning. A partner of a poker site woke me at 4 am. He was polite, apologized for the hour, said he wanted to get in contact with me right away, and was about to catch a plane for the States thus the odd hour. What was weird is that we never really talked about his poker site, online poker, and anything related to either. He talked about his life story and asked me about mine. Lasted for a hour and then he said he had to board his flight. The only time he talked about his site was by telling me its name at the beginning of the conversation and that was it. At the end of the conversation, I got no sense where I stood or if he would even call back. I have had many telephone interviews over the years and this was one of the more unusual ones. *laugh*

I don't think I should be revealing those kind of details. If I land a marketing job with a poker site, I'll then let you all know which one it is. ;)

    This made me chuckle.

I sent in my resume to bodog.com. I got a reply back saying that they only consider those with work permits in Costa Rica. Looking up how to get one, it says foreigners need a business that wants to hire them. As bodog.com mandates it, it is a Catch-22. *laugh* Oh well. Their stupidity. Their loss.

Someone already mentioned Pentasia, and only yesterday there was a piece on them as they have just opened up an office in Malta:

    http://uk.pokernews.com/news/2006/6/pentasia-igaming-recruitment.htm

Their man out there said “The iGaming industry is proving to be a major contributor to the Maltese economy and is providing numerous employment opportunities for both local and international candidates. We are confident that our recruitment services will assist in further promoting Malta as a leading international gaming jurisdiction, by enabling operators to appoint experienced and specialist gaming skills to their operation.”

Also Mansion are now Gibraltar's biggest employer! From a standing start two years ago.........!!
