Leinster Cup - Prize division

    Just wondering what people think...
Leinster cup had 130 runners, prize fund €65,000. Announced that prizes for top 15.
BUT, those placed 7th through to 15th won an entry into the €3K competition next weekend, those 1st to 6th got a €3k entry each and what remained of the cash, i.e. €20k between them (1st was €12k, not sure of others).

My difficulty with the above is that entrants didn't know until after they had handed in their entry fee that in effect they were entering a 'grand satellite' for the bigger competition.

Less than one third of the prize money was distributed in cash, IMO, this should have been advertised.

I think that people who enter tournaments do so to win money. If we wanted to lash €500 on a 'grand satellite', I'm sure we could find a way of doing that.

Should say that the tournament was very well run, good structure, efficient staff etc...

I would be surprised if there were many who did not know this was a satellite. I and most others have known this for ages. The other PE tournies with a buyin of 300-500 were all satellites and tickets have always been distributed for the bigger buyin events this way.

hmmm I dunno about others but I presumed that each prize would have a ticket at least. I think most people realised it was a satelite (all the others have been). What I find strange is that not ALL the money is in tickets (ie: some is in cash). I actually *like* the way they do it because its a bit of both.

    DeV.

Think I should correct myself, and apologise.
Seems as if many others knew exactly what they were entering, fact that I didn't is my own for not doing enough research.

Thus, what I wrote above "My difficulty with the above is that entrants didn't know until after they had handed in their entry fee that in effect they were entering a 'grand satellite' for the bigger competition." is incorrect and deserves an apology, which I give unreservedly.

    Hi LPlate,

It was clearly advertised not only as a satellite but as a super-satellite as early as last February right through to this week when we guaranteed a minimun of at least 10 tickets.
A super-satellite is where the maximum amount of tickets is taken from the prizepool and awarded to the winning players.
As with last years super-satellites we always pay cash and try to pay good amount of cash to winner even though the stucture is fairly flat over all. I'm surprised you did'nt realize this as it was clearly advertised on all promotional material and detailed by text message as well.
    Structure was as follows
    1. 3k ticket plus €9000
    2. 3k ticket plus €5000
    3. 3k ticket plus €2500
    4. 3k ticket plus €1500
    5. 3k ticket plus €1000
    6. 3k ticket plus € 400
    7 - 15 3k ticket
    H.Hand € 300
    Bounty € 300
Entries 130. Total amount of chips in play 1042000.
    €45,000 in tickets €19,400 cash €600 h.hand / bounty.
The stucture seemed to be a popular one with the [pkayers who came back for day 2. The play was ultra exciting when down to 20 players right through to bubble who was Phil " bad beat" Harris.
Eoin Nolan has just won the title.

If it is necessary for me to eat any more humble pie, I'm happy to do so.
