Some new and old candids, that I've recently post processed. As you can see, a fair bit of influence comes from Fack To Bronts photography... (Thanks Elven :) )

I think this needs a much tighter crop.

    Thanks Mele!

Post processing was pretty much using the highlight/shadows, then levels. Bringing down skin tones using hue saturation, dodging and burning, highlight/shadows again, hue/saturation again, then using smart sharpen and gaussian blur in different layers.

nice, might give it a try with my stuff from last night. it makes the faces a bit pox marked tho doesn't? i'm of two minds if that is a good thing or bad thing...depends on the use of the image i suppose. cool stuff

Yeah, it works a lot better if the skin is rough anyways. Not sure if it'd work well for gig photos, people want smooth shots, plus it'll make them hella noisy, and you'll have to reduce the saturation on a lot of the colours you'd be wanting.

I think the effect works better on older people, in some pics it seems like they have some nasty skin disease or don't wash themselves

Kinda agree with Dimy. I can see a use for that style though on posters or album covers. Interesting work Faj!

Nice work, but I have to admit I've always found HDR photos of people absolutely disturbing, as HDR brings out every detail in their skin.

I think those ones are a lot better - the 2nd busker one works very well. Also the b/w 'indy taking a break' one. Nice work.

Nice work I love the last one (Ronan?), the eyes really zing. Why do you call them candid? Your subjects are aware of the camera.. I'd call them portraits

They weren't aware I was gonna take a photo though! I usually wait 'til my target isn't aware of the camera, and call their name, when I have their eyes, I shoot! Thanks though, I really like the one of Ronan myself!

Afaik, it is indeed! Think it has a Nikon strap though...

Great stuff faj ,really like the second one of the young busker and the long beard. The beard really has that celtic looking design to it.

As I said I'm not mad about the PP on some of the portraits but that old man shot is a classic. I'd love to see it in pure B & W. Great stuff.

    Cheers!

Yeah, as Elven said on my Flickr, it really is a niche! Not that I'm gonna do it with many more portraits, I just wanted to experiment so I knew how to do it, if the shot arose! Have some nice shots planned now. Have to wait 'til I have some friends in Waterford willing to model... (And I thought it was hard in Dublin!)

And Eire, it's defo the beard that makes him! It's a fantastic piece of facial hair!

I loved how his hair at the back is backlit as well, to frame the subject even more. Thought it was a great detail. Makes me wish I could do portraits :)

Haha, that was part of a lot of dodging and burning tbh!

Well, if it was intentional it worked eh...
